Who Authorized This?

Last night on Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight or whatev they were talking about celebrity divorces and financial settlements. I guess due to the Simpson/Lachey split. And they just throw out this nugget about Hilary Skank Swank earning $10 million a movie.

Who authorized this?! Why wasn't I consulted? Two Oscars and ten mil' a picture? When she's never "opened" a damn thing? ARGH. After she's finished scarring me for life on March 5th, I expect she will then devour the world.

Lol, Nathaniel your continued disdain for all things Swank is hilarious, and even a little bit endearing.

Argh-I also saw that and groaned (how does she deserve $10 mil a picture).

I can already see the potential train wreck of 2006: Annette Bening in Running With Scissors v. Hilary Swank in The Black Dahlia.

Well, I say give Swank her 3rd Oscar in 2006 for either 'The Black Dahlia' or 'Freedom Writers'. She is just superb (after a year in the shadows suffering silently, I now feel I need to counterbalance Nathaniel's continued hatred of La Swank at every turn!).

Let her join Ingrid Bergman and Katharine Hepburn as the most Oscared actresses in history!

She's already only with Jodie Foster, Bette Davis and Luise Rainer as the only actresses to have 2 Best Actress Oscars by the age of 30. Time to move even further on up, dear Hilary!

Nice call Javier!

I must say though that I am liking Hilary Swank MUCH more now that she's actually putting her Oscar(s... shudder) to good use and making better movies than The Affair of the Necklace and (horror of all horrors) The Core.

The Black Dahlia is one of my biggest anticipated movies of 2006. Although, heads up, Red Dust was released in Australia last year and tanked and got poor reviews. So there's something positive!

Harsh, javierag, harsh! Swank was, up until Clint cast her and she won her well-deserved second Oscar, one of the most talented yet underworked/misunderstood actresses of 20s/30s set. She is finally getting some meaty roles thrown her way now that she's become more of a 'media' celebrity and not everyone's like, "who the fuck was that Best Actress winner?"

Granted, she's only made 4 good films - Boys Don't Cry, Insomnia, Million Dollar Baby and Red Dust (which incidentally, kamikaze camel, had raves when it was aired on the BBC here in the UK last summer - it's a searing, if slight, piece of work. Chiwetel Ejiofor is the star of the show but Swank really underplays her pivotal role to greater effect) - but that's only cos she was passed over by so many casting agents. Hopefully no more of that happening anytime soon...

Hilary Swank is a good actress.

Wasn't she even Film-Bitch-nominated as best actress of 1999 for Boys don't cry? She won the 2nd place!!!

She was very good in "Million Dollar Baby". Maybe it wasn't oscar-worthy but she was good.

If she gets a nom for BLACK DAHLIA it'll be a supporting role, unless they've seriously bulked up the role from the book. The only lead in the film, far as I can see, will be Hartnett. And while I'm not a huge fan of the guy (Trip Fontaine aside) I think this could be a good role for him. Plus anytime DePalma makes a movie I'm happy, even if the movies themselves are a tad, well, subpar.

I stand with Amir on this one. Hilary Swank may not have a hugely impressive resume at this point, but I think she is a good actress with a lot of potential, especially since "Million Dollar Baby" (bad title, good movie). Does she deserve $10 million per movie? I think not, but her star is on the rise, and audiences (myself included) really seemed to embrace her in MDB, which was a $100 million-plus hit stateside. "The Black Dahlia" has definitely piqued my interest, so I hope for and wish her all the best. I also think that, since Julianne Moore is no longer attached, Hilary would would make a great Amelia Earhart should Hollywood ever get "I Was Amelia Earhart" (excellent book) out of development hell and off the ground. Happy Thursday!

I think those who hate Swank do so because they can't stand the fact that she has two Oscars, while some of their favored actresses can't even win one (like Winslet, Moore etc.)

She's a good actress. The films she chose to star in after her first Oscar win are questionable, but that's been a curse of female Oscar winners lately. Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry and even Gwyneth picked poor projects after their wins, yet nobody hates them as much as they hate Swank. I don't get it, really.

Angie, Halle and Gwyneth don't have 2 oscars, that's why.

And the $10 mill tag makes NO sense. None of her movies have made any money at all other than M$B, and it's box office office was NOT her fault. $10 mill? WTF? She is not Jodie Foster, no many how many oscars she has, she can't just be in some random bad movie (cough cough... Flight Plan) and make it a big hit. Her films don't actually make money.

Unless Hilary Swank is playing a white trash male or female, which is not a far cry from her up bringing, then don't expect her to win anymore Oscars. The reason she plays these roles so well, is because she doesn't have to act. Has anybody seen her do anything else worthwhile?
