Even over Meryl. Basically because every time a big musical hits big with the globes, the lead actress wins. Period. They love women in musicals.

And I really don't think Meryl can win the actual oscar with this role. Maybe the globe and SAG, though. It seems exactly like Depp in Pirates in that it's too comic and iconic and in too "light" a film to take the actual award. For the globe I think it all depends on how much they love the respected films. If Anne Hathaway is nommed, Streep's winning. If Dreamgirls is up for like 8 or 9 awards and everyone loves it, Beyoncé's probably winning.

Currently, I'd bet:

Globes: Winslet, Beyoncé

SAG: Streep

Oscar: Winsletadam k.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13485604493059621307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152558611319633212006-07-10T15:10:00.000-04:002006-07-10T15:10:00.000-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.adam k.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13485604493059621307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152558514015206092006-07-10T15:08:00.000-04:002006-07-10T15:08:00.000-04:00I really think Beyoncé should be considered the fa...I really think Beyoncé should be considered the favorite for the globe at this point. Whereas Michelle was so understated and restrained that she managed to take a rather intriguing character and make her, (forgive me for saying), rather dull, Hathaway jumped at the opportunity given to her and wowed me. The dinner table scene was exquisite, and the phone conversation at the end is the best bit of acting she's done so far. It's a shame there weren't a few more scenes with her, she deserved more than the Sandra-Oh treatment.Beauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12330740987516007108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152547636621531472006-07-10T12:07:00.000-04:002006-07-10T12:07:00.000-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Beauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12330740987516007108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152518404509427582006-07-10T04:00:00.000-04:002006-07-10T04:00:00.000-04:00I thought Anne Hathaway's performance was sometime...I thought Anne Hathaway's performance was sometimes campy in Brokeback. However, I didn't mind the comic relief. I'm sorry, but, some of the wigs she was wearing I just couldn't take seriously. Still, I enjoyed her performance. And I thought her final scene was good. Just my thoughts/not trying to flame. Sorry if I don't feel like everyone else. I'm just surprised that there is no one else that feels the same way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152513145465070442006-07-10T02:32:00.000-04:002006-07-10T02:32:00.000-04:00Adam, I don't think it's entirely out of the quest...Adam, I don't think it's entirely out of the question for Meryl to win the Oscar. She is probably a good bet for the Globe win at the moment (Beyonce doesn't have the history that Madonna had when she won for Evita - i know you mentioned the Beyonce thing the other day). SAG gave their Best Actor prize to Johnny for Pirates so it's possible to win there too.

If voters can't decide whether to give the Oscar to Annette or Kate at year's end (well, March) then they may just decide to give it to Meryl again for the first time in, what? two decade. She has more losses than Kate and Annette combined!

Of course, it's entirely feasible that some other performance will rise out of the shadows and steal everything (is Hilary planning a sneak attack in something? She she drag it up in Flags of our Fathers? Drag + Eastwood = OMG)

But on the ensemble front, I think it's possible for the Globes to nominate Meryl, Ann and the film for BPM/C.

There was a conversation over at Dave Poland's Hot Blog the other day about Rachel McAdams being the next Julia Roberts, but quite a few (me included) actually decided Ann Hathaway was. She's even had a rags-to-riches movie directed by Garry Marshall co-starring Hector Elizondo! She's had the Oscar-hit and now she's comic foil to La Streep. Plus, she's got that wholesome aww shucks personality going for her too, and she's actually NICE and a GOOD ACTRESS. The phone scene is indeed choice. Her acting in that scene trumps Heath's, pity she didn't get more scenes throughout.

(Sorry that this was so long)Glenn Dunkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05424659636310160482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152499309086238472006-07-09T22:41:00.000-04:002006-07-09T22:41:00.000-04:00i'm so glad you liked emily's performance as much ...i'm so glad you liked emily's performance as much as i did... i feel like andrea when nigel complimented her on her own outfit.. like i actually have taste, or something. who knew? :)
-benAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152494401594047812006-07-09T21:20:00.000-04:002006-07-09T21:20:00.000-04:00Yeah, I'm glad Anne Hathaway has finally emerged f...Yeah, I'm glad Anne Hathaway has finally emerged from the shadow of the Princess Diaries. She's quite a good actress, and, I'm sure, was just doing what she was told with her obvious perfs in those films.

And yeah, I haven't seen Prada yet, but I totally love Emily Blunt just from the trailer. My favorite is when she says, "that, I can't even talk about." Talk about making the most of a thankless role.

Does anyone think Meryl actually has a chance to win for this role? I think she's officially lead (especially if the studio has any decency and gives Blunt her own campaign in supporting), and I don't think it's really winnable that way. Which is sad, cause I'll hate to see Meryl lost for a 10th (!) time in a row.adam k.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13485604493059621307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-1152471479249399782006-07-09T14:57:00.000-04:002006-07-09T14:57:00.000-04:00She's wonderful in Brokeback, and it's about time ...She's wonderful in Brokeback, and it's about time that got celebrated. That is the scene in the film that seems more and more compelling every time you watch the film again. She is astonishing in those scant few minutes on screen.
