She is really good when it comes to accents and the roles been given to her, but at the same time it feels "safe".
I think that Streep would become a better actress if she worked with European or in non American movies. Being directed by Wong Kar Wai, Lars von Trier, Jean Pier Jeune, Liv Ullmann or Alfonso Cuaron.

I also agreed with Hayden that Streep lacks the emotional presence like especially Emma Thompson, Helen Mirren, Judy Dench and Kate Winslet have. And she should take some notes from Cate Blanchett when it comes to take risky roles. Streep has been present twice with Sophie¨s Choice and Bridges of Madison County. And she was really close as Clarissa in The Hours

My first Streep experience was the incrediable beautiful with long blond hair lesbian woman in Manhattan. I was totally blown away by her nonacting in front of the camera.
Meryl Streep thank you ;)Manuelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-52722566909066516392010-09-07T23:39:05.113-04:002010-09-07T23:39:05.113-04:00Beautiful write up.

I've watched a few times now, and everytime I see it I'm just amazed by how good she is. She'll never be on par with an actress (like Vanessa Redgrave, Susan Sarandon, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, etc.) when it comes to emotional presence.

And, incidentally, The Devil Wears Prada was a rare creative moment. She never builds characters from the ground up the way she did Miranda Priestly. It would be nice if she gravitated towards roles like that, but she doesn't.

That's what stretches her as an actress, in my eyes. Seeing her do something OTHER than rigorous accent work.Haydenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13622435513032131426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-35584022937705948042010-09-06T12:29:02.230-04:002010-09-06T12:29:02.230-04:00My supporting actress pick from 2006.
