I believe they were saying he was just overcome with emotion. And yet for Kate it's becoming too much of a girly princess or whatever. I'd probably cry if I won a Golden Globe, let alone two in one night! sheesh.

That thing about winning twice is not true at all. It has never been heard about before. Not when Julianne Moore had two noms or when Holly Hunter had two noms. In fact, wasn't there a belief that Hunter would actually win both of her categories? Maybe I'm imagining that. But, no, that claim is a lie. If Winslet truly gave the best performance in a lead AND supporting role then why would they make it against the rules to give her a statue for both categories? Very stupid.Glennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08194113062830373898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-35211476072789010102009-01-12T17:26:00.000-05:002009-01-12T17:26:00.000-05:00i was really shocked to come on here and find peop...i was really shocked to come on here and find people complaining about kate winning boths GGs and her acceptance speeches!! i for 1 feel like there should be a national holiday that she finally won! and winning 2 ALMOST makes up for the injustice of how long it took for this to happen!!!

also how are people complaining about the speech?? it was everything a speech should be! I found some things striking, just to nitpick a bit:

- The audience there, the celebrities are terribly noisy. They are all the time talking or walking in/out.
- Why was Sally Hawkins sitting so far from the stage? It took her a while to find her way.
- Both Winslet and Hawkins reading/checking names in a piece of paper. I hate the piece of paper moment. I realize they don't want to forget anybody, but it's just such a "deglam" (and not in a good way)moment, they should use PDAs or pieces of paper matching their dresses, lol. Hell, who wouldn't be? But I understand anon that her acceptance speeches were kind of disappointing. I would have loved to see her more Meryl-Streep-like, being witty, confident, owning the stage. Instead she almost went the Gwyneth-Paltrow-route. Is it silly of us to project so much upon her? You bet your ass it is. But that's the way I feel.
And styx, her saying"fuck, I want one (Oscar)" in that Vanity Fair article is actually the way I like her. That was not desperate at all. She's at the top of her profession and can pick and choose her roles. She's constantly praised and adored by critics, colleagues and fanboys. She's happily (I assume)married with children.
All of those things should provide her with some sense of perspective.

And yet she completely unravels. I'm supremely baffled that she feels so strongly about getting a "seal of approval" from the small, random collection of nobodies who make up the HFPA.
She should have enough pride in her work, her standing amongst her colleagues, etc not to loose it over this silly popularity contest. That should just be a nice little bonus, not something earth shattering.

It's very unedifying and I'm dreadfully disappointed. They just can't be nominated twice in the same category.

And when did Kate Winslet become perceived as horrible and desperately wanting an Oscar? Yes, she said she wanted one in a fashion magazine, but hasn't she been eternnally gracious with all of her Oscar/Globes losses? There's nothing wrong with wanting to be recognized for your work, and at least in that regard, actors want the same praise for their work that we'd want for ours, in their positions or otherwise. All of that "it's just an honor to be nominated" spiel does nothing for me. Just put it out there on the table what you want. If voters go for it, good for you, it worked. If they don't and think you are "desperate", then they'll pick someone else. Simple as that. It's their award to do with as they please. And in a world where Mira Sorvino, Helen Hunt, Jennifer Connelly, and Hilary Swank all have Oscars and you don't, I'd be pretty pissed off in general as to why I hadn't received an Oscar yet.

Three cheers for 2x Globes winner Kate Winslet!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-18791814256192167412009-01-12T11:05:00.000-05:002009-01-12T11:05:00.000-05:00"Third time anonymous said...http://www.guardian.c..."Third time anonymous said...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/charlottehigginsblog/2009/jan/12/golden-globes-awardsandprizes"

People don't understand that Kate was in such a shock because from winning nothing to winning 2 in the same night is kinda shocking. Holy crap.

Yes, I snickered to myself when I saw Renee Zellweger, because I knew that Nat would have a good laugh about it too. It wouldn't have been so bad though it was just the top part because it was see through and then everyone could see her white/light colored bra. It looked like something a desperate starlet would wear to get attention not Zellweger who usually looks nice if not somewhat boring. It's pretty bad when Megan Fox looks more demure and less deperate for attention.

Maggie just tries too hard I think. Her and Chloe Sevigny are the same to me as far as fashion goes. They're both great actresses, are pretty, but I don't understand their fashion choices are why they're hailed for being such fashinoistas when most of what they wear is fug. Nicole Kidman I understand because even when she doesn't pull something off which is rarely, I can see what she was going for, and it still looks okay certainly not fug like other "fashionistas" get away with.

Also, Drew Barrymore would have looked fine if it weren't for her awful hair. I think her and Jessica Lange looked like the scariest presenters imo. Lange because something was up with her forehead that made it look really shiny and weird.
