When I first saw the film, I was surprised the screenplay was by Nora Ephron, but she did a great job as always (just in a slightly different genre). I think I will have to rewatch it now.vg21https://www.blogger.com/profile/18224254040084856202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-45183935655985939932010-11-14T14:33:13.291-05:002010-11-14T14:33:13.291-05:00The movie did not create the controversy as it beg...The movie did not create the controversy as it began even before Silkwood's death, but the film revived it again 10 years later. It is significant to note that Silkwood's family won a $10 million judgment against Kerr-McGee in federal district court for the terrible plant conditions and radiation contamination noted in the movie. This was overturned on appeal by the circuit court and eventually a $1.3 million settlement was made.Paul Dnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-85021427080613593042010-11-14T14:19:42.916-05:002010-11-14T14:19:42.916-05:00Meryl Streep... I understand it was Dolly who kept the story alive. So it wasn't the movie that created the controversy.

I haven't seen it in years. It was very controversial when it came out in 1983 and the Oklahoma authorities strongly defended their actions and claimed that it was just an accident for which Silkwood herself was largely responsible. I agree the acting in the film was great and Streep has stated that it was the first leading role where she played an "ordinary" person.Paul Dnoreply@blogger.com
