With The Two Towers there is one scene (the Boromir flashback) that I think would have improved that film, but others (like Eowyn "stew" moment and more Helm's Deep fighting) are fine for home viewing, but I'm glad they weren't in the original.

As for Return of the King, I think the theatrical release is the superior version by a wider margin. There are some good scenes (in particular I think additional footage of Sam and Frodo struggling to get to Mt. Doom, seemed just a little too easy in the theater, especially after the long build up of Mordor as a vast, horrid wasteland) ... but...stuff that is cool in the books (like "Mouth of Sauron" and "Houses of Healing"--my favorite scene in the entire book!) is just flab in the EE (in my opinion).

And I've watched all three back-to-back twice in theaters (though not the ROTK EE) and did one long marathon with my niece a while back. Oh, I frequently just have the films on in the background. Yeah, I'm an addict, but I know it!SusanPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09247068663993460537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-3425343699438490602007-04-10T10:21:00.000-04:002007-04-10T10:21:00.000-04:00ftr i think the extended cut of the first movie is...ftr i think the extended cut of the first movie is better.

the second i like it as is but i'm ok with the extended.

and i'm dreading the extended on the third (still haven't watched it somehow) because i feel like it was already bordering on way too long. loved it I did but it seems like the success taught them to not care about tightening it up.

i've never watched them all back to back (though I'm tempted) because I fear that there'll be like 83 shots too many of people marching along hilltops shot from helicopters

but i love this screenshot because MCKELLEN is f'ing brilliant in those movies.NATHANIEL Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11597109147678235399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-60793280534042767982007-04-10T10:04:00.000-04:002007-04-10T10:04:00.000-04:00gah...I can't stand the extended versions...so muc...gah...I can't stand the extended versions...so much extra stuff that makes it long and flabby...there IS a reason they decide to cut those scenes out of the theatrical release...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-2149456812230951212007-04-10T09:25:00.000-04:002007-04-10T09:25:00.000-04:00"just as good"?!nope, much, MUCH better in extende..."just as good"?!

nope, much, MUCH better in extended edition!

but then, I'm of the opinion they should have done 6 movies ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-50983781448727173122007-04-10T05:16:00.000-04:002007-04-10T05:16:00.000-04:00Who wouldn't have the extended? it's just as good ...Who wouldn't have the extended? it's just as good and you can't tell the difference, really.Glenn Dunkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05424659636310160482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-89923884932395233502007-04-09T22:50:00.000-04:002007-04-09T22:50:00.000-04:00God I hated this movie so much.Midgets smoking wee...God I hated this movie so much.

Midgets smoking weed makes it slightly better though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-12838849366698681712007-04-09T16:14:00.000-04:002007-04-09T16:14:00.000-04:00extendedextendedNATHANIEL Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11597109147678235399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-30647611274151987282007-04-09T14:03:00.000-04:002007-04-09T14:03:00.000-04:00I'd imagine the theatrical.
