I've written best-sellers on the topic, including Simon & Schuster's "7
Steps to Heaven." Art is a lot more subjective than that, "perfection".cal rothnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-77837173429260218742010-10-22T17:06:38.930-04:002010-10-22T17:06:38.930-04:00I am always ready for a Clint Eastwood movie, sinc...I am always ready for a Clint Eastwood movie, since he is my favorite director, and he's my favorite director because I enjoy his movies even when they are uneven (Invictus) or bad (Blood Work, The Rookie...). But really I go into every film hoping that it's good or better. Oh well. I'll go watch The Social Network again.Orionnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-88175460433096807112010-10-22T13:38:34.016-04:002010-10-22T13:38:34.016-04:00Usually I end up seeing Eastwood films because the...Usually I end up seeing Eastwood films because they could be Oscar Contenders but luckily this one was dead on arrival in those terms, so I'll pass on seeing Hereafter.Daniel Armournoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-28325518249164609602010-10-22T13:10:10.413-04:002010-10-22T13:10:10.413-04:00Saw it already, liked it very much, though i expec...Saw it already, liked it very much, though i expect the "pro" camp to be pretty small on this one. The script is pretty undercooked conceptually, but neither the actors nor Eastwood try to overcompensate by going big or over the top, or really doing anything other than quietly playing the scenes for maximum emotional impact. I appreciate that, given how prone to histrionics these types of "dueling -storylines-converge!" movies generally are. The solid, unpretentious Eastwood approach - with a generous assist from the cast - brings it through.

You're 100% right about the score, though.
