im thinking meryl streep may pull it off on sunday. kate's been campaigning too much...harvey's been campaigning too much. the campaigning is getting to be a turn off. i didn't like the holocaust joke either.
I've really been craving Day for Night and The Godless Girl (Cecil B. De Mille's last silent movie) for the past week or so but haven't found time to pop them in my DVD player. As for new releases, I have been DYING to get my hands on The Class. I love inspirational teacher dramas, no matter how awful, and since this one's actually getting good reviews, I feel like I need to see it immediately.
I really wanna see Doubt again.. its showing in like NO cinemas near me even tho its only been out 2 weeks (and had LOTS of advertising). by the time its out at my local independent cinema, the dvd will be out!!!

Pulp Fiction. I haven't watched it in a couple years. We've been quoting it a lot at work lately, so I'll be revisiting an old friend soon... maybe even tonight.
Amarcord. Even though i saw it aat the Nuart in L.A. on Saturday, I think i need to watch it with the commentary. Also, I've been dying to see Last Year At Marienbad again, but Criterion Collection won't release it! Grrr....
i reaaallly wish i'd seen that yesterday instead of the Friday the 13th remake. every couple of years i become convinced that i like horror movies a lot more than i do. then movies like Friday the 13th set me straight.
I'm doing a birthday-movie-watching-day for my friend, and so far, the list of "potentials" includes: rocky horror 1960's Batman pineapple express a buffy mini-marathon (you know, to give the day some gravitas) :)
But little bit offtopic hasn't the movie year started off great with Two Lovers and Coraline getting great reviews and the documentary Must Read after my death has 100% at RT of 13 reviews?

How that lost the screenplay oscar I will never know. Astonishingly well written. People crow about Hawkins this year, but Broadbent and Spall's snubs were just as outrageous! (Although more expected).
yes topsy turvy is a beauty. And yes Broadbent is arguably better than any of the Oscar nominees that year... and some put together. Just WOW on that performance.
It's just SO good. I never tire of the brilliance of that picture. I can't quite forget what a brilliant year 1999 was for film, and what a vile bunch of nominees the Academy produced for us.
I even liked Hillary Swank back then, although Kate Winslet in Holy Smoke would have got my vote in some alternative universe.
Milk. I think Sean Penn gave the performance of a lifetime, and I am not his biggest fan. When those bullets entered Harvey Milk, I actually was catapulted back in my seat I was so absorbed in the character. That has never happened to me before.
Magnolia. I'm amazed I can keep watching that, considering it's three hours long. Of all the wonderful scenes though, I love the Julianne Moore breakdown at the drugstore. "and you have the nerve to call me lady?? shame on you! shame on you."
Actually, any one of Robert Downey Jr's films. I think I'll go look through my library (I think I have about 20!) and pop in the first one that tickles my fancy...

Rachel Getting Married. No doubt. After I saw it, I was still contemplating it but I've liked it more and more every day since.
