She is obviously talented and while I praise her for still doing at least a movie per year, she does so much crappy work these days one has to wonder if being an actress is something she's passionate about or if it is just a means of paying the bills...

Even Brad Pitt seems to think like that a bit. I want batshit crazy Brad Pitt back (Se7en, Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club), not boring Pitt (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Benjamin Button, Assassination of Jesse James, Ocean's 11, 12 and 13)... That guy from the 90s was a genius.

And I feel bad for them both because they're two actors I like a lot. Sometimes...* decelerators, that's right, sorry. Sometimes I make up words, ha.

Nathaniel - You're right. Winning an Oscar is the climax and a career's highest peak, but I guess I think it shouldn't be the only one. For me following the narrative comparison, what follows the Oscar should be at least, if we draw a line of the entire narrative, a line with its own small peaks a bit below the highest peak (the Oscar) not a down flat line that indicates almost no life. And in some cases, it seems as if after the climax some actresses would go to sleep (ok, here I'm thinking about other kind of climax :)). But it's not that second climaxes (?) can't happen. Look at Meryl Streep. Ok, she's an exceptional case in many ways. So look at the actors, actors like Sean Penn or Daniel Day-Lewis constantly surprise us with still better performances. And it should be the women those having multiple climaxes, not men (here again, sorry).

I guess it's just disappointing/disheartening that someone can consider herself she has done everything when she's still in her thirties or early forties. I prefer to think there's a group of actresses that share the same kind of manager who advices them to try the blockbuster/franchise thing after having gained the prestige with the Oscar, so that they can be bankable. And sadly, I include Cruz in the group (even if she's a supporting winner) for going Pirates instead of Von Trier. But it's true that in her case she's still got Almodóvar to go back and forth to challenging parts.Iggynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-37752549418648485282010-03-18T06:56:14.310-04:002010-03-18T06:56:14.310-04:00/3rtfull -- I'm usually criticized for concent.../3rtfull -- I'm usually criticized for concentrating so much on older actresses! not the other way around.

i've always loved movie stars. and i do occassionally geek out over the character actresses.NATHANIEL Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11597109147678235399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256060.post-21085966531853199422010-03-18T00:56:35.755-04:002010-03-18T00:56:35.755-04:00Jolie is a one-note actress. Now that she’s the world’s favorite spokeswoman for the poor, giving birth to Brad Pitt’s children–an Oscar winner on her first nomination, what else is there for her to do? She’s a box office draw, she has fun making Hollywood garbage while maintaining a lifestyle that enables her to do what she does personally –taking care of such a big family while giving them the best at the same time.

Btw – A Mighty Heart was a summer release – not that should matter but I think it had an affect of people having a out of sight out of mind kind of reaction towards it.

Nathaniel how come you’re not more in love with character actresses?
