Don't worry. I'm not going to make a post for every exciting reveal from the nation's top critics. But I get giddy at the beginning when these start popping up. Check out David Ansen's (of Newsweek) list. That German film topping the list is a goodie so rent it. That's the other thing about the early top 10 lists. You suddenly realize there's things you still need to see before you can do your own. Kings and Queen sits atop my TV right now and I'm reminded due to his list.
There are 21 days left in the year and I have 12 December releases left to see and 9 rentals (give or take) of films I missed. This is where I start getting exhausted just contemplating screening time hours, writing hours, Oscar page updating hours --all before the FB Awards are announced. Exhausted and elated.
Don't click away, either, until after you've read Ansen's lists of the five Best Actresses, Best Actors, and Most Disappointing Movies of the year. Great to see deserving off-the-radar choices like Connie Nielsen in Brothers within his lists, and that choice of Head-On as the year's best, even if the film got too histrionic for me, is a really admirable, sincere, and interesting choice.
ReplyDeleteYes, everyone should seee Kings and Queen. It's hardly perfect, but it still remain in the middle of my Top 10 of 2005 (I saw it back in May).
ReplyDeleteAnd Jeff Daniels gets, justifably, named as the best actor this year!
I agree... although I can't decide between him and Day-Lewis, so Ansen's got my number double-trouble. Haven't seen Brokeback yet, but I like these two much better than the still-very-good Hoffman or Strathairn.
ReplyDeleteMan, i never get to see all the movies I wanna see from this by even this time NEXT year, let alone by January. That's why my own person list and awards are silly. I mean, when you have movies being released in April here that have been out since December in the US, it gets a bit tricky.
ReplyDeleteAnd then by the time the movies I missed come out on DVD its time to pay attention to the next year's movies.
All so frustrating.
