Kathleen clobbers Jessica & Natasha

Excellent article from diva-obsessed Ben Brantley on a trio of famous actresses taking on three legendary roles on Broadway this season.

  1. Kathleen Turner's heart must have swelled upon reading this, but it seemed a little mean-spirited to me. Given the consensus that has already formed behind Turner and against Richardson and Lange (well, against Lange anyway), did the New York Times need to put these universal judgments into writing? I am sure Brantley is just trying to win Turner a Tony, but his piece works just as well as a device to get Menagerie and Streetcar packing their bags ASAP, which the NYT reviews of both shows already did plenty to accomplish.

I must admit I am rooting for Turner to win the Tony, though. Jones doesn't need it, even though I love her and I wouldn't be surprised if her performance is better.

Wha--Ben Brantley mean? Ben Brantley bitchy? It can't be. (ha ha)

I want Turner to win too. Excellent work. But Jones is so deserving that I won't be able to complain if she does. She's definitely elevating Doubt every night.
