On Sunday I'm often vaguely out of it, wanderin' round the apt doing nothing 'cept the laundry. So I read other websites and take their cues! Nick listed a Book quiz. So I took it. I am William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury and described thusly
"Strong-willed but deeply confused, you are trying to come to grips with a major crisis in your life. You can see many different perspectives on the issue, but you're mostly overwhelmed with despair at what you've lost. People often have a hard
time understanding you, but they have some vague sense that you must be brilliant anyway. Ultimately, you signify nothing."
That's way too heavy for me because it misses my fun side entirely. I'm not bipolar or anything but I am totally Gemini --i.e. close to the same thing. My significant other saw me taking this and he, being a total bookworm, sat down to take it as well. He is Mrs. Dalloway
"Your life seems utterly bland and normal to the casual observer, but inside you are churning with a million tensions and worries. The company you surround yourself with may be shallow, but their effects upon your reality are tremendously deep. To stay above water, you must try to act like nothing's wrong, but you know that the truth is catching up with you. You're not crazy, you're just a little unwell. But no doctor can help you now"
...a description which makes me giggle out of complete terror because it's, um, true. Enough about that--
Which book are you?
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
ReplyDeleteAfter stumbling down the wrong turn in life, you've had your mind opened to a number of strange and curious things. As life grows curiouser and curiouser, you have to ask yourself what's real and what's the picture of illusion. Little is coming to your aid in discerning fantasy from fact, but the line between them is so blurry that it's starting not to matter. Be careful around rabbit holes and those who smile to much, and just avoid hat shops altogether.
scary how six questions can get it so right.
You're Catch-22!

Incredibly witty and funny, you have a taste for irony in all that you see. It seems that life has put you in perpetually untenable situations, and your sense of humor is all that gets you through them. These experiences have also made you an ardent pacifist, though you present your message with tongue sewn into cheek. You could coin a phrase that replaces the word "paradox" for millions of people.
You're David Copperfield!

Coming up from a childhood that felt abusive, you have risen through hard work to gain a place of stature in your life. You've spent altogether too much time in factories and end up misspelling a fair number of words. But in general you are seen as a beacon of hope for others who might not be as fortunate. Lots of people keep mistaking you for a magician and are waiting for you to disappear.
Completely untrue, but fun nonetheless.
I am The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver:
ReplyDeleteDeeply rooted in a religious background, you have since become both isolated and schizophrenic. You were naively sure that your actions would help people, but of course they were resistant to your message and ultimately disaster ensued. Since you can see so many sides of the same issue, you are both wise beyond your years and tied to worthless perspectives. If you were a type of waffle, it would be Belgian.
Um, no religious upbringing, so I dunno about that. I'm a graduate student, so "isolated" and "schizophrenic" are total no-brainers; no props to this quiz for figuring that out. You'll have to ask my students how resistant they're feeling to my "message," and if any of them wouldn't mind telling me what my message is, I'd sure like to know. Good to know I'm wise and worthless at the same time (also = graduate student). I don't know about the waffle thing, y'all.
You're Watership Down!

Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you're actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits.
This is eerily dead on.
I really like this quiz! At first I was James Joyce's Ulysses, which I didn't think really fit, so I rethought some things and tried to answer more honestly and then I was The Sound and the Fury, which I think fits me better than Nathaniel. The Alice in Wonderland one is pretty good for me, too. Catch 22 is also great.

You used to care, but now it's just getting too difficult. You cared about the plight of people in lands near and far, but now the media has bombarded you with images of suffering to the point that you just don't have the energy to go on. You've become cold and heartless, as though you'd lived in New York City for a year or so. But you stand as a serious example to all others that they should turn off their TV sets and start caring again.
Which is frighteningly accurate considering the rut I'm in at the moment. I didn't think my answers really described me all that well but it goes to show you.
