Curiousity killed the Nat

Out of curiousity: Does anyone actually notice that the sidebars to the right change each week? Weekly obsessions, iPod, (primarily -though the linkage does see minor shifts. Or is it a useless onanistic pleasure of mine?

I know that what you're really curious about is the Oscar predix updates (1/2 way mark of the year and all). That's on its way, too.

  1. Dixie Chicks? Really?

Anyway, yeah, oscar preds. I'm hoping you're reviewing 'The Producers' situation. This is total oscar bait, they love musicals. They're 'in' at the moment. Chicago won in '02 and even Moulin Rouge got a nod despite not getting that great acclaim. Don't be jumpin on that Rent bandwagon, Brooks is working with Stroman on The Producers. I don't think it's gonna be a flimsy re-make. Plus its got Thurman, Broderick, the talented Lane, and the universal delight of Will Ferrell. It has to be in half-mark predictions, there's hardly anything in the months from April through to July that looks set to pick up any awards. Do it.

  3. Dixie Chicks? Yeah. I still don't really get Country music but there are certain artists who, with repeated exposure I learn to love. Dixie Chicks and Mary Chapin Carpenter being the most obvious country examples for me.

But country music remains my least favorite musical genre. Er, second least. Don't love headbanger or heavy metal either.

I like several country songs like Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind", Dixie Chicks' cover of "Landslide", Gretchen Wilson's "When I Think About Cheatin'" and a few others.

Does Shania count anymore as country?

  6. Yes, Landslide. I admit I do love that tune. Generally though, country doesn't float my boat.

    Nathaniel-

Thrilled to hear about you updating the Oscar Pages (big fan), but you mention several times that James Ivory died (on the director page, and I believe on the Best Picture page), and it was Ismail Merchant who passed away. Thought you ought to know.

  8. Just thought I'd point out that you got Murray and Crowe's comments the wrong way round.

  11. Ooh we share a weekly obsession. At least I think we do. You're talking about Madonna at live 8 right? If so. Yes, totally agree. She was like the best part about it. Never heard her sing better, I've d/l the whole set. Amazing.
