Ooooh... Match Point looks GOOD. And I thought it would be all about Jonathan and Scarlett playing tennis and talking cute. It really looks interesting, and pretty scary. I say oscar noms for director, screenplay, and supporting actress for Scarlett. Probably best pic (drama), director, screenplay and supporting actress at the globes (and quite possibly a globe win for Scarlett, which I've thought to be the case for quite some time). May just be too dark for an academy best pic nod, though. Seems like a classic lone director nom type of film. And perhaps a win for original screenplay? Nothing else seems as strong in that category right now. Nice column also, by the way.
the mere fact that my two husbands are starring in a film together is enough for me, but add into it homicidal magicians and Christopher Nolan and, well, i'm there.
I'm actually getting excited about Match Point.
Do you think if it gets nom'd this will bring Allen back to the awards show?
No, I haven't watched the film, unfortunately. I just felt by watching the trailer that Ms. Mortimer might be quite good. Scarlett Johansson will probably go lead.
This counts for every week, really, but Thanks to everyone for reading. I know I sure have a good time writing it. I'm out of town at the end of this week, so no formal column, although I am thinking about kicking in a little extra for you if Nathaniel doesn't mind (Nat, we'll talk).

wow, that's the most un-woody allen trailer ever.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure this is a Woody Allen film? Did he have anything to do with this trailer? Is there any humour in the film?
ReplyDeleteWatch for Emily Mortimer!!! The supporting spot is hers.
Great article by Mr. Reid.
Marcelo - Brazil.
