I'm wondering if this is finally Hou's year to win.
Match Point...hmmm...we'll see on that one. Woody says he's proud of it, but being so young and not actually hearing much of what he's said to the media in the past, is that a good sign? Is it rare?
Manderlay better be a masterpiece.
I'm really looking forward to "Manderlay". I agree with David on this one: after "Dogville", the expectations on this one will be huge.
I'll be keeping my ears open on how it performs in Cannes. And then hopefully it will come to Toronto. ;)

as Woody's feelings about his own work goes, the only comment I can think of that might be relevant is that he originally didn't seem all that enthused about Manhattan (or so I've read) or Hannah and Her Sisters (which I remember) and said at the time that whenever one of his pictures gets 'masterpiece' type of acclaim he feels instantly that he's done something wrong.
Or something to that effect. So his own view of his work might not correlate with the public response.
But Match Point seems to be some sort of departure. Back to pure drama. London based. etc... If Melinda is any indication, maybe he's going back on an upswing?
Manderlay is my most anticipated film of the year after Dogville became my favourite of 2004.
I actually made the quite hilarious miscalculated prediction that Bryce Dallas Howard would get an Oscar nomination. They liked Von Trier's woman in the past, why not now with a hot up and coming daughter of Ron Howard??
I am looking forward to new Van Sant as well.
But I will the first to admit I've never seen any films by a lot of those directors (or even heard of them to be ever more honest)
