It's the return of the "Movie Personals". Capsule Reviews as Personal ads. Which movie are you most compatible with. Masochists will worship The Dying Gaul's haphazardly applied hostility. Romantics may swoon for Pride & Prejudice. Etc...
Read the reviews: Capote, The Dying Gaul, Grizzly Man, In Her Shoes, Oldboy, Pride & Prejudice, and Proof

great reviews; wonderful format too. and can you tell i'm dying to see "grizzly man"? It looks to be one of the "greats" of the year.
These are the best movie personals you've ever written, never minding the fact that I have loved them all. Hilarious, and spot-on (though I think Capote is more complex than you do).
We both know G is gonna be mad at us, but I've got your back on Gaul and Oldboy. Blech, and blech.
They were a good read, Nat!
I am sort of looking forward to Capote but nowhere near as much as at least 10 others. Grizzly Man only screened here for 2 weeks as part of the European Masters Festival that came and went as an advertisement for the DVD release fairly soon. Never had an interest in The Dying Gaul except for Patricia.
I think everyone on here knows my position on Pride & Prejudice, right!
And speaking of Oldboy, I'm currently half way through it! But I started to feel restless so I stopped it so I can go back later. It's alright so far but nowhere near as good as I thought it was going to be. And then I saw your review and I found it sort of ironic.
But what I want is your review of Confessions on a Dance Floor. I think it's absolutely mindblowing brilliance.

Wait, Nick/Nathaniel, who is G?
I think it might be Gabriel Shanks, another member of the Cinemarati. I don't know his opinion Oldboy, but remembering him admiring The Dying Gaul.
I'm surprised Nat was so against The Dying Gaul, because I think it's a much better play than the similarly themed Closer.
(Actually, I was referring to God. No, you're right, I meant Gabriel... though come to think of it, you never do see them in the same place....)
As for the Gaul/Closer comparison, I only have the film version to judge from in Gaul's case, but I think Closer is much stronger... infinitely more honest and steady in its conceit of eliding long stretches of time and hitting us only with the moments of crisisGaul's structure seems much shakier and more arbitrary, punctuated with Big Moments that often don't work or aren't even clear, at least in the film version. I also think Closer, just comparing the movies for convenience, has richer and tougher dialogue, particularly once Gaul goes off the deep end in the middle act...
I was gonna write more, but I forgot this isn't my site. ;)
Hey, that never stops me from writing essays on these boards. But maybe it should.... hmmm...
Oh wait, that's right, Nick has his own website. Yes, go write something over there, Nick ;) I will read it later.
Gabriel adores both Dying Gaul and Oldboy. He is, apparently, crazy. Luv ya G! See you on Monday.
I'm with you on The Dying Gaul - a mess, and a shame, after what I thought was a strong start. But guys, Oldboy on DVD? That's no way to give it a fair shake! [/clutching at straws]
Very cool design! Useful information. Go on! Ink cartridges uk
