Hee. Though I might swap Cronenberg for (*sigh*) Allen. And where did Doyle/2046 take a hit?

well... its that nobody ever had faith in him and then he started showing up in critics awards AGAIN. eventually the academy members who vote on DP are going to have it give it up for him. i mean, they must be getting embarrassed by now.

I really hope Joan Allen isn't dead for The Upside of Anger. Could it possibly be that the Globes just don't like her?

However, I feel like Crash is slipping away. Pity.

R.I.P. "Sin City" for anything :(

When will anyone realize that Mickey Rourke is the year's Best Supporting Performance? :)

I guess "Sin City" will have to wait until the MTV movie awards to be recognized for anything... What a shame.

What is wrong with The White Countess???

Marcelo.

tim r said...

It's a Merchant Ivory film.

Kind of an open goal there.

Yeah, the lack of White Countess anywhere's pretty sad. The trailer looks good. Oh well.

And to anonymous, I said somewhere else that actually, it's true, the globes DON'T like Joan Allen that much. They have passed her up before when they should've bitten. So I think she's still alive, albeit on life support. A couple of small critics' awards would be very hepful.

I hope my Joan gets the critics support. I know they rallied for Naomi Watts after the 21 Grams snub (if I remember correctly).

Speaking of Naomi: If she gets nominated for King King, would that set up some kind of weird precedent? I know action/blockbuster movies have received noms before, but would it still be a first in some way? I'm having trouble thinking of it as not something new for the Academy.

Sarah Silverman, Rent
Miranda Richardson, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

No. Our girl Sig in Aliens. Who shoulda win, too.

I knew about Sigourney, but (if it happens), the King Kong nom feels like it would be a first in some way/shape/form. Maybe the first nomination for a action remake?

Oh, and if the FYC for FilmBitch are annoying, I can stop it, but I'm kinda having fun campaigning for my faves.

I hope Ziyi Zhang's latest buzz isn't going to turn her into the next "hate object" of yours like Renee Zellweger. LOL. Seriously, at least in interviews she seems very sweet and humble, not like that latter who practically said in every interviews that she deserved the Oscar and was "owed." No one's forcing these people to put her name on ballots. Besides, she put her heart into that role, and even though the finish product wasn't exactly inspiring, she tried. I'm not in any way saying that nominations should go to the nicest actor of the year, but I hope we don't hear any rants against her like the rest of your list of overrated or once-loved-now-hate actors. It's not everyday that we see an Asian actress in such a high profile, and even though she's not the best, at least she's there, not to mention someone who takes her craft seriously.

anonymous,

i loved ziyi this year in 2046 so i'm not exactly in hate. i just think she is adequate at best in Geisha and the worst of the nominated performances in either actress category (though I haven't seen Huffman) so an easy target for the lack of Joan Allen wrath.

I really hope Joan Allen isn't out of the race either, but a destinct lack of any precursors is foreboding, methinks.

And I just realised who, apart from Keaton, was the big name missing from Supporting Actress - Uma Thurman.

Anon, i too feel that Crash is slipping away in Best Picture but Supporting Actor and Screenplay are looking as rosy as ever.

I still reckon it's Munich that's wounded the most right now. Barely anything so far except for a couple of token nods in the NBR top 10 and a Director/Screenplay Globe nod.

The Pleasantville non-nomination still hurts me to this day.

As I'm sure people here are aware (because I constantly bring it up) you are not alone on that front.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ABOUT . . .

JULIANNE MOORE
FOR
"THE PRIZE WINNER OF DEFIANCE OHIO"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poli said...

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio is not a very good movie. Julianne Moore elevates it, but it's like how Steve Buscemi makes the crappy movies he is in better. I doubt she'll receive any love for the film (Freedomland, however, looks all-out awesome)

Glenn Dunks said...

1. Prize Winner is dead and buried. Deal with it.

2. Freedomland was pushed from December 2005 that has a weak Best Actress field (which actually looks much stronger now) to February 2006. Say what now?
