The first three pages of the Film Bitch Awards are complete. That's my Oscar ballot if you will -- all the traditional categories (minus the ones that aren't available for viewing to the public and are not dependent on theatrical release --namely, documentary, foreign films, & shorts). Brokeback Mountain leads with 10 nominations, followed by 6 times nominees Pride & Prejudice and A History of Violence.
Close behind is Good Night, and Good Luck. with five nominations for Film Bitch medals. The leaders among films that did not make my top ten list are 2046 (5 nominations) with King Kong and Capote (4 each) tailing.
The extra fun categories have already begun. More will be up this weekend when we'll also predict the Golden Globe Winners for Monday night's ceremony. 19 days until Oscar nominations. You can feel the heat rising, can't you?

Great choices. I was curious, though - Isn't "I Can't Wait" from Happy Endings also original? I thought it was, and thought it was an excellent song. Maybe not, though. Also - no mention of Kudrow?!
I love the Emmylou Harris nomination (I just wish Rufus had joined her).
Question: Did you notice that, if your current lineup of nominees is chosen by the Academy, there will be 14 first-time nominees (with only Hurt, Dench, Keener, McDormand, Phoenix, and Allen being previous nominees)-when was the last time the Academy went with a lineup that fresh?
i actually love the Rufus song (he's probably my favorite male singer bar none these day) but i try to make it a mix of the worth of the song and its connection to the movie so that's why it's not quite in there.
the song category is essentially a pointless one since songs have very little to do with filmmaking ;) but it's still fun when there's actually good songs to honor.
oh and john --i don't think the academy has ever had 14 fresh faces ha ha. except for maybe the first year of awards ;)
Rufus is my favorite male singer also. He should be everyone's.
Loved your cinematography lineup (best i've seen so far) though it's a bit shocking to see the ridiculously brilliant "Gardener" photography off the list (we are talking near-genius level here).
I'm more of a Martha man myself. I can't stand Rufus in large doses, and I didn't particularly like his BBM song. Sad.
Question: What do you mean by "And the best shot work not on celluloid this year? Brothers by Morten Soborg."
I haven't seen the movie so I have no idea what you're talking about.
Glenn - I may be wrong, but I think Nathaniel's referring to the fact that Brothers was shot in DV.
Just a random note: Ton O'Neill is crazy. Why I do I even go to TheEnvelope.com at all? I think he has serious ego issues. He insults his readers, calling them "stupid fanboys" who aren't interested in the "serious work" of accurately predicting awards. Yikes. Simmer down, Tom.
"Ton O'Neill is crazy. Why I do I even go to TheEnvelope.com at all?"
Honestly, I think I said these exact words a few days ago. Ask Nathaniel, he was there. Haaaaate!
Oh, okay. Figured it was something more than that.
I loved Tom O'Neill's piece on how he really wants to predict Crash will win BP purely so he can brag about it later.
I deleted my Enveloppe bookmark after Asshole O'Neill wrote a whole piece about Broadcast critics are great but print journalists are all crazy misfits. Thanks, man.
Back to topic, Rufus IS the best... unless you cound Martha. :)
