Prediction Updates
{ahem} Why do I put myself through this again? I do not know. Nevertheless, every Oscar page is updated with adjustments to predictions and rankings. BBM leads with predicted 10 nominations, followed by GNaGL with 7, Memoirs of a Geisha, Walk the Line, and Capote with 6 each... etc... Enjoy if you're as obsessive as I am.

I wanted to kick my computer screen when I saw Zhang's name in your line-up. If you've relented, that means all hope is lost.
hey it's not like i'm happy about it. it would be one of their more embarrassing decisions in recent years but there's no denying the momentum of her career and sometimes thats why they recognize people.
er or something like that.

Capote just won the NSFC award over aHoV. Maybe it is getting into best picture after all...
And Hoffman and Witherspoon won AGAIN. It looks like they will probably be winning the token statues for their respective best picture-nominated films. Which is fine, I'd take Witherspoon over another deglammer anyway. Though I still think Ledger has that globe.
And Cronenberg finally won a directing award. That's encouraging for him.
And Amy Adams won, too... they seemed to be in the mindset of "let's push the iffy ones over the edge" this year.
And yet another disappointment... For me the National Society of Film Critics are the single coolest film community on this planet, period, but is their third consecutive dud. "American Splendor", "Million Dollar Baby", now "Capote"... was this the same group that rewarded "Persona", "Mulholland Drive" and "Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" Best Picture mentions? I couldn't tell.
Actually, I've always thought the NY film critics were the coolest.
I still think Michelle Williams is being snubbed, hope I'm wrong though, coz I haven't seen BBM, but I always enjoy her, but in a crowded field, hers sounds like the kind of performance that gets lost

But she is a long-suffering wife and has a big yelling scene! Scar.Jo definitely does seem to be slipping there though, doesn't she. Oh well.
I had a thought today though about a potential out-of-the-blue (ala Fernando Meirelles for City of God) type of nomination in Best Director. And the one name I came up with...
Michael Hanake.
I doubt it'd happen but I just had a bizarre thought about him.
I actually think Witherspoon will win the Globe, but Dench will win the Oscar. But if it's not her, it's Witherspoon. I don't see it being anyone else, unless Allen makes it and has a lot of good-will pent up on her side. For actor I think Heath Ledger is gonna pull a Halle Berry on Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Phillip leads most of the way, but then loses the Globe to Ledger and then eventually the Oscar as well. It's strange saying I think Heath Ledger is going to be an Oscar winner but I think it's gonna happen. As Nat has said, the Academy likes their gay men suffering, and that's what Ennis does. he suffers something shocking.
(18 days to go until Brokeback Mountain!!!)
Or Wong Kar Wai. It seems about time for the Director's branch to nominate him, right?! And it's only the director's branch that needs to see the film to nominate him.
oh (me again), Constant Gardener a desperate oscar baiter? I don't think so... (sorry)
