Top Ten of the Year

Top Ten Lists: Disappointingly static when affection is always fluid. Nevertheless ... I rank on.

well, I got the 5 films correct, just didn't get Cache and Pride & Prejudice in the right order.

I'm assuming that M&Y&EWK was the B+ you were wrestling with?

It looks so weird seeing Pride & Prejudice in #3. Just doesn't look right on your list. lol. What that says, I dunno...

Wonderful top five...looks like we might just have the same top two films this year. And I can't wait to see Cache.

Yeah, Pride and Prejudice looks so weird among the rest of your top 10. Still haven't seen it, though so I can't really say.

So I guess M&Y&EWK is an A- now? That surprised me... I was expecting to see it at about #7... I was unfortunately disappointed by Brokeback Mountain and am kind of stunned at the many #1 placements and awards its receiving, but I'm gonna see it again and hope I was wrong somehow. I am never ever disappointed by your #1 films and I was ready to be obsessed with this one, so something just feels horribly, horribly wrong.

My favorite thing about year-end lists is when I get to add movies I somehow missed to my rental queue. Thanks for Brothers.

Excellent list, worthy of the wait and consideration which has gone into it.

P&P looks utterly in place if you ask me. It's in my Top 5 for the year too, and it's as much as a surprise for me as it was for you.

And yes, the BBC adaptation IS the definitive, and it IS better, but you know what? Both have their own energies, rhythms and resplendant merits.

I was saying it looks odd on Nathaniel's list. I think it's definitely one of the best of the year. It's my #3 right now as well (but I haven't seen a lot of 2005 movies like BBM, HoV, Cache, Producers, Munich, Walk the Line, etc yet cause they're not out for a while)

Love the list...especially BBM (my #1) and P+P...but Corpse Bride? Seemed like a cheap remake of Nightmare Before Christmas to me...thought it didn't speak well for the movie when I left humming songs from Nightmare rather than the movie I had just seen...oops...

We can always count on you Nathaniel to be honest.

So many top 10 lists feel like there's a strategy behind them or someone has an axe to grind.

Your list is you. Thanks for that.

And for Brokeback at #1. Me too.

P.S. Can't wait to see Joe Wright's next film Atonement from the great Ian McEwan novel.

david m, you're not fucking with me, are you? Atonement - as a film. If the movie is even a tenth as good as the book, we're looking at one of the best films released. Wow.

arkaan, see link:

second last paragraph:
Wright's next move confirms his position as our brightest emerging director: he's landed the coveted job of making Ian McEwan's Atonement, adapted by Christopher Hampton.

There are several mentions of it on the net although no production date or cast yet.

The Hollywood Reporter also mentioned it. Yay!!!!
