Top of the Mountain

It's finally official Brokeback Mountain is the year's top grossing Best Picture nominee. Woo-hoo. [previous post on this subject]

What I found interesting was that through the last four years, the film that's won Best Picture has been the film that has made most money in between nomination day and Oscar day. I had never heard that statistic before, and I'm sure it doesn't hold up pristinely if you keep going farther back (Silence of the Lambs, Gladiator, and Braveheart all must have broken that trend). But it's something to think about (and more good news for Brokeback, also).; 5:22 PM

I personally would like to see it dethrone The Birdcage (blech) as the highest-grossing gay-oriented film all of time. But Birdcage made $120something million, so that will be a tall order. But I do think it's possible...; 5:47 AM
