Aragorn. Gandalf. Bob

We've reached the point in the Top 100 Actor countdown where it's impossible for me to imagine the cinematic decade (thus far) without the contribution of the actors listed. Everyone from here on out has, in one way or another, made some sort of immediate impact whether through a set of resonant turns, celebrity-of-the-moment ascendance, or a feeling that they're very "now" in terms of the movies if you know what I mean. It's always hard to divorce your feelings about actors from their entire body of work and look at just a set of years but that's what I've been attempting to do.

There are people who did not make the list that I think are fine actors but there wasn't necessarily enough from them in the past six years to justify inclusion.

At any rate: the next 15 people are where it's at. Here are three great "M"s: Murray, McKellen, and Mortenson. Read. Return and discuss if you want. You know how this works.

How is it possible that Gods & Monsters is 8 years old? I was going to chide you for not mentioning it, but then I checked and... it came out in 1998??? Man that makes me feel old.

How you left out Murray's voice-work in the Garfield films I'll never understand, though... I never thought anyone would ever capture the deep pathos of that fat orange cat and his existential aversion to Mondays, but then along came Bill, and suddenly, wham, I understood.

Well, with McKellan and Mortensen not in the top 10, I now only know of Gael Garcia Bernal who will undoubtably be there.

Can anyone here help me?

Okay, I do realize that Johnny Depp hasn't appeared yet, but other than him, I have no clue.

Christian Bale, Jude Law, Tony Leung - they'll certainly also be in the Top 10.
Also still upcoming should be Jake Gyllenhaal, Ewan McGregor, Daniel Craig, Jim Broadbent, Clive Owen & Peter Sarsgaard. Obviously, at least 4 of those 6 will have to be in the Top 10...

I'm not certain about Bale, but I do think Law, Bernal, Leung and Sarsgaard will be in the top ten.

My money's on Jude Law to take the number one spot. Like Nicole Kidman for the women, he just has too big and great of an Aughts filmography to pass him up. I personally wouldn't consider anyone else.

I think it's Depp vs. McGregor vs. Law for the #1 spot. Broadbent will by the male Patricia Clarkson I think.

But those damn 12th and 11th spots are driving me CRAZY!I'm holding my breath that Owen and Gyllenhaal will crack the Top 10. The just HAVE to! Don't let us down Nathaniel!

With only 2 spots left before the top 10, I can't imagine that Bale won't be in it.

I would also bet on Law for #1

I'd think Daniel Craig will be 11 or 12 (don't see him cracking 10), but I don't know whowill be the other unlucky one. I keep thinking Bale will be exactly 10th, maybe cause his career sort of correlates with Toni Collette in terms of how underappreciated it's been... and how they both seem English to lamen even though neither actually is.

I've always thought it would be
1) Jude
2) Gael
3) Ewan
and I am sticking to that... but beyond that, I don't know.

Maybe Owen will be 11th? But I'm thinking higher...

Depp I think correlates with Julianne in that he's done one brilliant thing this decade and then mostly a lot of crap... so I'm counting on him to follow in her footsteps as #6.

That's my thoughts anyway... I tend to match the actors now with the actresses in terms of where they'll place and why.

Also, I kinda thought that Viggo and Daniel would be grouped together in a kind of "rugged manly men" double spot, but I guess Nat elected for the LOTR grouping instead... makes sense.

Actually Christian Bale is English. He was born in Wales but he's actually English.

Oh, it'll be Clooney. Forgot about him.

Clooney & Craig should be up next.

Shouldn't Hugh Jackman come next? A Top 10 placement for one performance would be so weird.

Hugh Jackman was already on the list. He was
# 57
.

Haha, I didn't remember that.

Am I the only one who thinks Bale will be in the top 5?
I may be going out on a limb with some of these placings but here's my current guess of how the Top 10 will break down:

1) Jude Law
2) Christian Bale (am I really the only one who thinks he could place this high?)
3) Gael Garcia Bernal
4) Ewan McGregor
5) Tony Leung
6) Johnny Depp
7) Jim Broadbent
8) Clive Owen
9) Jake Gyllenhaal
10) Peter Sarsgaard

...but with possibly switching Bale/Bernal (2/3), Leung/McGregor (4/5), and Gyllenhaal/Owen (8/9).
