I still think Jude is #1. I think the goodwill from pre-2000 movies will be the tie-breaker, considering Gael was brand skankin' new in 2000. Plus, two nominated perfs (one gold) compared to one.
If I lived in America I'd be more excited about The Devil Wears Prada. I'm more excited about an Aussie film called Ten Canoes which is opening this week alongside Superman Returns. Supes isn't my fave superhero.
I'm wondering if Meryl Streep will move up into your Best Actress candidates for Prada. She's getting majorly positive press and it's Meryl.
I had her predicted in supporting so I'll have to change that to lead.
jude... really...?
Between Superman Returns and shooting myself in the head. I'll take the former but only because I have stuff to do this weekend.
Read the review!
You mean 3 nominated perfs (one gold) to one. Jude was definitely nominated for both AI and Cold Mountain, and also got a finalist spot for RtP.... i.e. basically the same record as Nicole.
And OK wait, who says Meryl is lead? It sounds supporting. Anne Hathaway is the lead. It seems like a kind of Holly Hunter/Evan Rachel Wood situation. Also, I don't think she'll get a nod if it's lead, so I dunno.
JUDE 4 THE #1 SPOT!!
Regarding Oscar Predix, Nat, I was wondering if you've seen the article floating around the web of a disscussion of the film 'Fur' that The Weinstein brothers, Variety's editor in cheif and other guests had at a recent party. They talked about how at a early screening it got a standing-O and is said to have career best performances by Nicole and Robert Downey Jr.
Here is the whole article:
"Hot topics included Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. in Steven Shainberg's Fur, which is a dark, dazzling, almost magical look at the life of the fabled photographer Diane Arbus. Miss Kidman is said to give the performance of her career, with Downey not far behind. At a recent screening for reps who worked on the film and with the actors, the room exploded into a standing ovation as the final credits rolled. One who was there said, "A more jaded audience you cannot imagine. I have never seen such a thing in my life." Fur will be released in November via Picturehouse."

Looks like you've been underestimating Fur, Nat! I tried to send it via email, but it wouldn't work.
How many career best performances can Nicole give? lol
lol, kamikaze I know!
But Kidman is the new la Streep of course. ;)
But I'm looking foward to Fur even more now reading that piece. Standing-O? WOW.
Cool blog, interesting information... Keep it UP »
