Daniel Wroughton Craig
Daniel Craig is... #8 (in this case eight is never enough. As in 'I can't get...') in the Actors of the Aughts Countdown. So go and read about it, will ya?

the top ten just gets hotter and hotter
Hmm, that's a very personal choice (as in, not someone who would universally be brought up as a Top 10 candidate).
I'm at odds with the 'Daniel Craig is a hottie' thing though. Sometimes he is very hot indeed, but other times he looks like he got hit my a bus (see the last shot of him in the Bond trailer).
I await his turn at Bond though. Should be better than the last few Brosnan ones.
mmmm, I love the idea of Daniel Craig as Bond. He'll be fantastic. I was surprised he was this high on the list, but that's cool.
I'm predicting Owen for #7.
Good case made for Craig.
7. Owen
6. Depp
5. Tony
4. Peter
3. Ewan
2. Gael
1. Jude
I'm most shaky on whether it will be Depp or Leung who makes it into the top 5... I still say Depp has not been in enough good movies to justify it, but I dunno...
I admit that I forgot about Daniel Craig when I was first trying to read your mind, but I was being obtuse; he's a great choice for the Top 10. He's been building up enormous star-is-born credentials in all those movies you mention, in extremely varied character parts, and how he's right on the verge of a major mainstream crossover. Even minus Bond, though, he's been eye-catching in so many parts (and not just 'cause he's byooteeful) that I think placing him high makes complete sense. (Not that you need corroborating.)
Admission to Glenn: that weird variability in DC's looks is part of what makes him attractive to me. His face is so interesting...in context of which, those abstract, perspective-based sculptures of the human face that Samantha Morton made in Enduring Love were an ingenious bit of mirroring Craig's look.
7. Clive
6. Peter
5. Tony
4. Johnny
3. Ewan
2. Gael
1. Jude
Johnny has had a bunch of roles other than Jack Sparrow, and while the films themselves haven't been the best (Secret Window, From Hell, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) he's always great to watch (especially in Mexico of those titles). Plus he voiced Corpse Bride and had that fantastic cameo in Before Night Falls.
But I have no clue.
9. Christian Bale - w00t!
8. Clive Owen - Damn!
7. Daniel Craig - I guess this is a damn also...
6. Tony Leung Chiu-Wai
5. Johnny Depp
4. Gael Garcia Bernal
3. Jude Law
2. Peter Sarsgaard
1. Ewan McGregor
Of course, if Clive is next, I just flipped two, and I can handle that.
Still not changing anything.
My full predictions for the next 7:
7. Owen
6. Leung
5. McGregor
4. Sarsgaard
3. Depp
2. Bernal
1. Law
Hmmm...interesting choice.
My predix:
7. Clive Owen
6. Ewan McGregor
5. Peter Sarsgaard
4. Tony Leung
3. Johnny Depp
2. Gael Garcia Bernal
1. Jude Law
Brilliant.
Can't believe I forgot about Enduring Love - what a great little movie that is.
Craig's really gifted, and while I'd probably have preferred Clive Owen for Bond, I don't have a problem with Craig.
Oh, and I think I need to watch Love Is The Devil again... or at least Craig taking that bath again....
Ja, there's plenty of pictures out there of it!
The great thing about having Craig as Bond is that his career needed the boost, while Clive Owen's did not... and this way, Owen gets to not be tied down to it. It's a win/win, I think.
I would love it if the top 5 contained one scotsman, one brit, one asian, one mexican, and one american... that's why I hope that either Depp or Sarsgaard takes the fall to #6... preferrably Depp, since I just don't think he's made enough good movies. one brilliant lead role + one brilliant cameo + one good voiceover job + a lot of "blah" = no higher than #6.
not to nitpick...well ok yes, to nitpick, but a scot is a brit.
Ugh. I love him so much.
To anonymous: I wouldn't say that to any Scots...
And I could see Depp in the Julianne Moore spot. But Pirates was a hoot, wasn't it?
7. Owen
6. Depp
5. McGregor
4. Sarsgaard
3. Leung
2. Bernal
1. Law
Why does everyone think Ewan won't be that high? He will be #3. Mark my words.
Also, what is a better way than to distinguish someone from england from someone from scotland? A scotsman and an englishman? And why do I have trouble thinking of Jude Law as "an englishman"... something about that word is just so 19th century.
Actually, I think Ewan may even end up #2... but I'm not counting on it.
Anyway, the real battle is for slots 4 and 5... I could see Johnny, Tony, and Pete all falling any which way.
On the Bond thing I was so happy that Clive didn't get the job. I love me some Clive but other than Sean Connery, Bond seems to destroy careers and I'd much rather than Clive in my life than Daniel Craig.
But the other Bonds didn't really have much of a career before they became Bond, or, even if they had success up to that point, didn't have much in the way of future prospects. But Craig is different. He's been a serious up-an-comer all this time. He'll survive Bond like none of the other actors before him.
Am I wrong?
While it may not destroy Craig's career, it will at least occupy him a great deal, limiting his ability to take other projects. I mean look at Hugh Jackman and Wolverine. Only now, 6 years later, is he starting to be able to branch out, and there's STILL another Wolverine movie.
But then again, it made his career... this will be great for Craig, I just worry that he won't be doing much else while Bond.
