Mayim Balik who, in a brilliant feat of casting, played the young Bette Midler in Beaches (and later went on to TV fame with Blossom) is 31 years old today. I only bring this up because oh my god that makes me feel old. Wasn't it just yesterday that I bought the Beaches soundtrack on (gasp) cassette! Wasn't it yesterday that it was all the rage to joke about collagen pioneer Barbara Hershey's inflated lips? If it wasn't yesterday it was like a year ago ... tops!
Just imagine how you'll feel when Dakota Fanning or Haley Joel Osment turn 30! You'll feel ancient. Be warned.

She may be 10 years younger than you darling but you look ten times better! xo,s.
well she's not 10 years younger. I'm not that old. jk all 41 year olds out there. i love you all. age aint nuthin but a number.
31? That's impossible, Nathaniel. Mayim used to babysit us before she hit it big. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
Jeez. The whole world has gone mad. She's not allowed to be over 30, let alone 31!

This is sad. Almost as sad as when Gaby Hoffman had that tiny little role and was fat and red-headed in You Can Count on Me. That affected me almost as much as the rest of the movie.
Yes indeed, G. Hoffman in 'YCCOM' -- OMG, jarring and kind of sad. I recall seeing her in '200 Cigarettes' just prior to that film, and don't remember her looking so bad. What happened to the cute little "H&G" girl?
Mayim was an absolute riot on 'Fat Actress' -- biting wit and terrific comic timing that a cheesy show like 'Blossom' didn't allow her to showcase. (I felt the same thing about Justine Bateman, another underrated and underused talent, when she popped up hysterically on the last few episodes of 'Arrested Development' earlier this year.)

Wow, this is like a hundred years too late, but if it makes you feel any better, I still like to make fun of Barbara Hershey's collagen lips.
