Here is crazy early Oscar predix/guesswork for the ear drummy awards: Score, Song, and Sound And there's also animated and foreign film predictions up (the Foreign category doesn't get its own unique page until after Cannes though --so these are just five countries chosen semi-randomly but with one or two films in mind like Lust, Caution which may or may not be eligible because: what submitting country could actually claim it? Taiwan, China, Hong Kong? or France's biopic La Vie En Rose which may or may not end up as a submission at all --France has so much to choose from).
Your thoughts regarding any of these categories... (I will hopefully finish all categories today. But it could just as easily stretch into tomorrow)

Oh no you didn't!!!
It's Aqua Teen Hunger Force Color Movie Film for Theaters, and yes, it did air last night. I think. It was acually in the bottom-left hand corner of the screen, and it was INCREDIBLY small. I have a 27 inch TV, and it was barely an inch in width. I actually doubt that it was the actual movie. So, :p
Well, the sound categories at least have 2 spots that are easily to call with Pirates and Spider-Man. The optimist in me wants to say the musical spot will go to I'm Not There, which would be the best picture nominee (again: optimism). I'm starting to really feel that one. But we'll see...
Also, I'm so glad Desplat is scoring Golden Compass; it seems like a prime opportunity for him to do some awesome work and get nominated for it.
Really, all signs are pointing to that film being VERY good.
I also predicted 2 song nods for Hairspray.
How exactly did you come up with Hirschfelder for Children of Huang Shi? That's a very out-of-the-blue nod.
On the matter of The Simpsons. I think they won't have a problem nominated THAT, even though the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie totally deserved a nod in 2004 and didn't get it. It's The Simpsons. One of the biggest cultural phenoms of the last quarter of a century.
Well you know... they usually love foreign influence flavors in their musical mix. so maybe the setting will prompt him to have eastern tinged music.
i don't know. i'm just speculatin'
plus he's been nominated before which is always helpful (especially with this branch)
i'm still a bit outta the foreign competition but i really hope france chooses la vie en rose; that trailer gave me chills all over my body, edith piaf was such a passionate and charming artist and by the trailer her biopic seems as good.
Hey, where's At World's End in Sound Editing? That seems like an easy nom for it.
Nat, Ms. Baltimore Crabs is reportedly still in Hairspray, and I guess they didn't use the new songs written for Michelle, that's just what I have heard anyway.
J --this is very bad news. both for my prediction and for Ms. Pfeiffer. that song is so boring/sucky
Nat, I just read an online journal on broadway.com written by one of the dancers, and here's what she said:
-Day 134: Today we complete "Miss Baltimore Crabs" with Michelle Pfeiffer. It's an unreal experience dancing next to an icon like her. They've added a fun dance break for Michelle that will definitely be a showstopper. We also finished "Ladies Choice" about a week ago. This new Link song, performed at the school dance, has become the dancers' favorite number, the "Hand Jive" of Hairspray! Everyone will be dancing in their seats when they hear this one."

All of Ang Lee's films had been Taiwan (unless I am mistaken), so I think Lust would be too.
