Cinematography, Art Direction, More...

Here's the rest of the early bird Oscar predictions for cinematography, editing and art direction and for both screenplay categories.

Only the big six categories left to go.

I would add Stardust to the list for Art Direction.

Uh... The Other Boleyn Girl and The Golden Age are both in the "others" secton in art direction? Really? They should be frontrunners or something!

Robert Elswit, Rodrigo Prieto, Xiaoding Zhao, Roger Deakins, Dion Beebe. If only there were a Lubezki, a Doyle, or a Richardson this year, then it would be perfect.

And you'd have overwelming and confusing confidence in Jesse James in any year, wouldn't you? It could be the lesson of All the King's Men, when no one realized it could be horrible due to shelving. Guess what?

I'm surprised you're considering "Knocked Up" in your top twenty Original Screenplays! Especially when you have films like Eastern Promises, Across the Universe, and Penelope (which, in my opinion, seemt to have stronger premises) behind it.

well these aren't my lists of what i think will be best. they're a mix of various things. what i have good feelings about. what i think the oscars might like, what i think the studios are likely to support, etc...

and knocked up is already buzzed as a likely breakout hit and the 40 year old virgin definitely got screenplay kudos in its awards season so why not...

i doubt, even if its deserving, that people would notice the screenplay of across the universe since taymor's films are so visual + this one musical. that's my theory anyway.

Oscar fever in April - dam this is fun -

I bet they wait for part two to give the Dark Materials trilogy a ton of awards - it is SF and the Academy has never taken SF seriously - and there is also the controversy over the subject matter of the film -

I am guessing that the release date conundrum for Jesse James is not because the film is bad - but because 1) they did not want to interfere with the Babel awards run and 2) it is different and they do not know what to do with it 3) it is long - and there was drama over cutting it down - screening reviews have been positive on it -

Agree that Golden Age and Boleyn Girls should be higher on art direction -

What makes you so keen on Michael Clayton - do you see it as a possible best pic nominee?? see you have it in editing -

JawDawg, It hasn't even started filming right? I was fairly certain it was solidly a 2008 release.

Can't exactly fault you Nat on these predix. Who can fault anyone? They're as good as can be expected in April.

Although your thing about Haynes in Screenplay is a little off. The writer's branch has already discovered him.
