Katharine Hepburn Centennial

Today marks the 100th anniversary of Katharine Hepburn. Many people think she's the best female movie star ever. If you're one of those people you'll want to check out this tribute by Josh R. (She made the "all time top 5" readers choice here -so I know there are Hepburn lovers @TFE)

If I had to narrow it down to just one favorite actress (and I'm never very good at that sort of thing), KH would easily be in the running for me.

Although she had a few missteps in her career (who hasn't?), overall she achieved a very high quality of work and range of roles (and, thankfully, she never had to go the horror movie route...no offense to others). To watch something like "Bringing Up Baby" and then "Long Day's Journey Into Night" is to witness the breadth and diversity of her talents.

I'd like to take a second to plug a (perhaps) lesser-known movie of hers, "Summertime", in the hopes that more folks will see it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048673/ Whereas most of Hepburn's performances primarily feed my head or my funny bone, this one goes directly to my heart. Sweet!

Cheers Katie!

i have always felt a little cool towards Ms. Hepburn. My own list of favorite classic actresses does not include her... but sometimes I suspect that if I ever get around to various 'fill in the gaps' with certain decades she might rise up triumphant.

i hope to find out one way or the other
