Today: Sci-Fi Kitsch. Tomorrow: Chat

That Terminator 4 buzz yesterday got me thinking about franchises again. The mind goes there in the summer. They're all around us. We've discussed this before but I've expounded a little over at Zoom In to ask about franchises that deserve to stay alive. I did not include this picture of Naomi Campbell and Marcus Schenkenberg in mirrored swimwear despite it's awesome and undeniable sci-fi kitsch factor. Can you imagine the new model (sorry) of terminators in this? Oh Thierry Mugler you crazy soandso...

Tomorrow: I'll have some late blooming thoughts on Cannes. And an experiment: I'll put up a live chat box right here at 1:00 PM EST and if you wanna ask me anything I'll be all sociable. Don't embarrass me by leaving me sitting by myself in the lunch room.

Next Week: I promise there'll finally be some new reviews and requests completed. Rough drafts be forming in me head.

You're totally right about the Before Sunrise franchise - it should at least be expanded into a trilogy. How about returning to them when they're in their 50s-60's and call it "Before Midnight"? I would buy a ticket.

I'm tired of sequels of movies that were made in the 80s. Nobody in hollywood has a brand new, shiny idea, to start new franchises?

The summer franchise does need to be re-thought. As much as I drooled over Marcus as a teen, and as much as I would like to see him sans kit, I have no idea why we need another Terminator movie.

It seems that the summer block buster can perhaps be stretched to one sequal, but never two.

I loved the article with Katzenberg from Dreamworks saying they're gonna make two more Shrek movies, and that it was always the plan to do so and they're not "making it up as we go along." That made me laugh so much. Who plans to make five movies? And clearly they are just making shit up.

I could drop by for a chat if a) I have my timezone maths correct and b) if I can be bothered getting up early on my day off.
