Actress Psychic ~ Point Updates

For those who joined that early bird Actress Psychic Oscar Contest --updated point totals here. November was dead for this category other than the starburst of Amy Adams in Enchanted (but nobody picked her in the spring so no points for anyone *sniffle*). But December started with a bang. The NBR announcement just happened. More awardage follows. Up next: the Globes and the first critics awards. Points will stack up quickly throughout December.

TFE reader Victor S maintains his lead, Vincent S isn't leaving him any breathing room (I'm also in #2 position, but I can't win as the game's host). Ben JT and Derek S are tied for third but there's lots of shake ups post Julie Christie & Angelina Jolie strides...

points since last update
+3 Julie Christie (Away From Her) -the winner of the NBR award!
+3
Angelina Jolie (A Mighty Heart) the only pick who was named one of Entertainment Weekly's "Entertainers of the Year"
+ 3 on the cover of Vanity Fair: Julia Roberts (Charlie Wilsons War)
+2 films opened and crossed $6 million mark: Streep (Lions for Lambs)
+1 films opened: Mezzogiorno (Love in the Time of Cholera), Linney (The Savages),
Blanchett (I'm Not There only*), Kidman (Margot at the Wedding) Page also opened in Juno but she wasn't among the 60+ women chosen by any of the competitors here so so so many months ago.
+1 cover of NY Times Style Magazine Portman (Goya's Ghost / Boleyn Girl)

Wow, zero comments?

I know that I am not commenting, because I lost the last remains of hope for doing well after the Boleyn girls got delayed. (And I'd picked both. Grr.) I am still having great fun following the updates, though, and can't wait for the 2008 edition of the Contest already. ;)

I agree with Luke...where is the love? I am thisclose to last place and I am still having a ball watching this play out. Aren't the rest of you hundred-odd still playing along?

I admit to being on my hobby horse regarding how the "consensus" picks for the top five slots in the Best Actress prediction contest will not hold more than two slots on the Oscar ballot, and possibly none (refer to 12 September for my previous rant). So, once again let's check up on how they are doing (including the entry tied for fifth):

Cate Blanchett - "The Golden Age"
Cate's Oscar chances, and those for the movie, sank faster than the Spanish Armada after TIFF. Is anybody still talking about this movie?

Julie Christie - "Away From Her"
I just was not wowed by this performance, but I have to admit the buzz simply will not go away. Seems to be pretty thoroughly dialed in, unless there are even more blockbuster December performances than currently forecast. The timely screener to keep her in the minds of the voters was well timed.

Angelina Jolie - "A Mighty Heart"
Another performance that persists in the conversation. Unlike Julie Christie, however, Angelina may find the room a bit crowded. With Cotillard and Christie apparently sure things, will the folks with ballots be willing to leave only two slots for December's darlings?

Nicole Kidman - "Margot at the Wedding"
Looked good in September. Not now. Way too much wattage elsewhere, and Jennifer Jason Leigh seems to be the only star getting any serious consideration from this film.

Natalie Portman - "The Other Boleyn Girl"
Still gone. We have to wait until 2008 for the beheading.

Marion Cotillard - "La Vie en Rose"
An absolute lock on every list I have seen. Am I the only person that doesn't get it?

Of the six top vote-getters, one (Portman) is out, two (Blanchett, Kidman) are in serious trouble, and another (Jolie) is a long shot at best. From six, we appear to be down to the afore-predicted two.

Just a reminder...'consensus' does not equal 'correct'.
