Ask Marisa
I will be speaking with the ever delicious Marisa Tomei (of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, In the Bedroom and My Cousin Vinny fame) soon. Your questions came in handy with Jennifer Jason Leigh. Leave your dream inquiry for Tomei in the comments. Update: comments closed, but I did ask a few of things. She is lovely. Very generous interview subject.

I wanna hear all about her theater work, particularly what her experience with Tony Kushner was like (re: Slavs!). Also want to hear Winterbottom/Sarajevo stories.
Also, given how many interesting indie directors she worked with before their breakthroughs (Michael Winterbottom, Mira Nair, Brad Anderson, Tamara Jenkins...), I'd like to know (my usual question, I know) whether she has a "pet" film from her past that didn't get the same attention as some others but that she's especially proud of, either for her performance or for the whole film... and/or whether any of those small movies felt like a turning point in her own self-perceptions or her approach to her work.
I'd love to hear about 'the elephant in the room', but I think there's got to be a nice way of phrasing it.
Did the Oscar nomination for 'In The Bedroom' (richly deserved) feel like validation?
Rob
I want to know how she feels about all the things people say about her Oscar win.
Ditto to all of the above.
But, of course, the really important question:
How have your experiences on A Different World informed your artistic life?
If Jack Palance's eyes read "the last nominee" on the prompter, then Geoffrey Rush' eyes couldn't see the last one and read the name of "the fourth."
how does she stay so hot!?!
Please, please, please ask her about creating Natalie in “In the Bedroom”… particularly the infamous slap scene with Spacek!
- Ryan
I want to know how she felt after all the negative press about her Oscar win, and then how it felt, years later, to get the nomination for In the Bedroom.
And I'm curious to see what she thought of Robert Downey Jr. when they made Only You together.
Hey, I want to know how she ever managed to engage in (simulated) sexual intercourse with (shudder)… that pompous, overrated beast Philip Seymour Hoffman.
^^^
That's what I was going to say. How did she stomach filming that first scene in BTDKYD?
I was also going to say the Sissy slap. Instead, how about whether the best friend/co-worker rapport she had with Rosie Perez in "Untamed Heart" carried over off camera. Aren't the two real-life chums? I always imagined them to be. I adore Marisa Tomei.
what is "pos-a-traction"? Did she get to keep the tight blue Mona dress?....wouldn't it be a hoot for her to put that on & walk down the street in NY. I have read the spacek slap was spontaneous, true? How does she keep her hair so beautiful, thick & luxurious? where does she keep her oscar? the seinfeld experience....do tell! Also....when she took the "Vinny" role, did she ever think that it would turn out to be such a massive thing in her career....or did she think she was going play the girlfriend in a joe pesci comedy. was Pesci wearing a rug? questions questions...she is very very pretty in my book. why doesn't she ever go on talk shows, ala regis, ellen, etc???
I'd like to ask Marisa what director, given the opportunity, she would be the most eager to work with. It would say a lot about where her career is going, methinks.
ask her if she ever wishes she had won for in the bedroom not my cousin vinny.
I'd also love to hear about her theater work, particularly the upcoming Broadway production of Top Girls with Martha Plimpton.
And whatever happened to when she was supposed to star in the Sweet Charity revival?!?!
I love me some Marisa Tomei. She's such a great actress. Anyway, I'd love to know if she's ever considered working behind the screen, rather than in front of it.
Did Jack Nicholson ever hit on her on the set of Anger Management
I know you'll ask about her movie stuff, but some theatre stuff too, please? Her current role in OH THE HUMANITY, Will Eno's new play? Next spring's run of TOP GIRLS on Broadway, opposite Elizabeth Marvel, Mary Catherine Garrison and Martha Plimpton? Her previous Broadway run in SALOME opposite Al Pacino and Dianne Wiest?
Much appreciated, darling!
What is her process for finding her way into a character (improv, thorough research/homework, both, etc.)?
I really don't have a question, but could you just tell her that her role in My Cousin Vinny is perfection? I've tears of laughter in my eyes just thinking about it.
Who sings that song in "Untamed Heart" when Rosie Perez is cleaning the jukebox?
Or Whose name was really written on the envelope?
Or
Is it a case of not being offered any juicy lead roles, or do we mainly see in you these fantastic supporting roles because this is where you feel most comfortable?
Sppechless.... you're going to talk with one of the hottest women that have ever lived!!! I think I'm starting to hate you now ;)
