Bostonians

So I've been in Boston for over 24 hours now for Christmas festivities and there have been no Affleck spottings whatsoever. It's so unfair. Ben, Jennifer, Casey, Matt: hidden from view! I regret to inform that despite the lack of starpower to be seen Amy Ryan as "Helene McCready" in Gone Baby Gone types have wandered into view.

What sights have you been seeing on your holiday break?

Nathaniel! You're in Boston and you didn't tell us! Not that it would really matter since Scot and I are currently in Dayton, Ohio visiting his family for the holidays.

Merry Christmas

Dear all

Merry Christmas! I'm visiting the family in Greece and, as such, I have been mostly spotting Melina Mercouri types. Seriously...the women here have permanently bouffy, immaculately coiffed hair. They must have time to do nothing else, Christmas dinners be damned!

I have fled Boston, at least until Thursday, to spend a Christmas in Connecticut with the family and the boyfriend. My mother got him Sunset Blvd. on DVD, which we just watched. The perfect Christmas afternoon. But besides a little Norma, we haven't seen much civilization, as we're out in the sticks.

Please make sure you hang out in Cambridge a bit. Boston has its sights, but wandering around Central Square and Harvard Square is much, much calmer and enriching. Just jump on the Red Line and enjoy yourself.

I've just seen "Atonement" and I'm completely impressed. F*** all the awards - limiting Keira and James's time was nothing but a great choice and made not only the film itself but also each performance terrific.
Anyway, I'm surprised that it's either Saoirse Ronan or Vanessa Redgrave who get awards traction. I think Romola Garai's performance is as good as these two. Some might say it's difficult to believe that THIS is the girl who did something that terrible, but, first of all, it's quite possible that she has finally understood what she had done by the age of 18 and secondly, Romola Garai doesn't exactly play THE REAL Briony, but the Briony the real Briony wanted to be. My favourite scene is the meeting of Briony, Cecilia and Robbie, when Briony tries to apologize for what she did.

try going to the "Daily Catch" down by the waterfront - across from Jimmy's Harborside (Hah-bah-side). Yummy-tum-tum. My fave eaterie in Boston. I lived there 20 years - only the locals know about it. Nothing glamorous at all.
