I will remain eternally surprised, in a very good way, that the Academy recognized this wacky performance.
Now if only they'd done the same for Laura that year.
This picture truly needs no further commentary. Brilliant.
Laura Dern should've been recognized for Inland Empire too, but apparently even the spectacle of David Lynch sitting roadside with a cow could get the Academy to nominate her.
laura dern was nommed for rambling rose yet her best performances go unnoticed wild at heart,we don't live here anymore,blue velvet & smooth talk,shame shame.
I love her in this film.

2nd favorite Lynch film after Blue Velvet.
GENIUS! Diane Ladd is just... wow in that movie.
I'm apparently the only one here who hasn't seen it, so...
What's with the red? Explain, please (yes, yes, there will be spoilers, I understand.)

This film had one of the best responses from all the ones I screened for my college film soc. And so it should. The colours, ah!
RedSatin, Wild at Heart is David Lynch's version of The Wizard of Oz (sort of) and Diane Ladd is the Wicked Witch of the West (sort of) and in one scene she covers her face in red lipstick. I'm sure she would've covered her face in green lipstick if it were possible.
Something about the scene that some people don't seem to notice is that she is also wearing munchkin shoes as she lies on the bathroom floor.
Oh, and Jose, apparently Ladd hosted a bunch of dinner parties in the weeks leading up to nominations as a way of getting voters to put her name on the list.
It's all very Pia Zadora, but unlike her the performance totally warrents it!
Man this is good. Just one of Lynch's dozens of visual masterpieces.
