I am seeing Wall*E in 4 hours... but I am not that excited...
I think I am too excited for The Dark Knight. It is consuming my dreams, internet searching, and love for other movies. I don't know the last time I was this excited for a movie and I am terrified that I am setting myself up to be let down...
*Sighs* We've had a rocky stretch, but I find myself falling in love all over again with Mr. Brad Pitt. I can watch him and Frances McDormand giggling with glee until the cows come home. And the trailer for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is seriously a thing of beauty, dontcha think? It's battling it out with "Little Children" for my favorite trailer of the aughts thus far...
-- everything sounds depressing when spoken in romanian.
I kid, I kid, it's a very good film. Speaking of skipping discs, I popped in a rented copy of "Enough" tonight (don't ask) and it skipped/froze/crashed before J. Lo even started training.
Re: Nicole Kidman. A few things. First, I don't look at as her as a cold person anymore, therefore I like her more. Second, that scene at the railway station. Now I know, Julianne Moore also excels at that kind of meltdown scenes too but, there is something about this that is special (upon many viewings). Third, the scene with the dead bird and her niece. Fourth, the deglam; comeon, im not a sucker for that stuff all the time but...Anyway, I'm not saying that she deserved it more than the other 4 but she deserved it just as much as anyone else. Plus I think she is a much nicer person than people make her out to be. She is quite a long way away from being like my absolute fav though. Hope she does more fine work.
Glenn -- i'll never understand the Death Proof love since those 30 minutes are preceeded by some of the worst 90 minutes or was it 180 minutes?
mrripley i didn't realize Gene Hackman had retired? but come to think of it i haven't seen him lately.
michael before i realized i had no money whatsoever i bought nosebleed for madonna so as not to spend a lot. it's the worst seats i've ever had for a madonna tour but i shall survive.
middle -p is torturing us all by not sharing about his WALL•E experience.
Anon, glad you've seen the light re: Kidman. That always makes me all kinds of happy.
I still await the next installment of the MR tribute. That pic in the banner just isn't enough. (Hey, someone has to be the nag around here, it might as well be me.)
I'm supposed to be going to an open air production of Midsummer's Night Dream this evening with the boyf, but I think he's going to cancel due to possible rain.
What I'm hiding inside is that this might be a good thing as then I don't have to explain what's going on...
But honestly who doesn't get annoyed when they're being asked "Who's Hermia in love with?", "Why does that guy have an Ass's head?", "Is that guy playing a fairy or a king or what?".
//janice at this point part 3 could never live up to anyone's expectations. I barely remember parts 1 and 2 ... oy.//
Um...try re-reading them? I do.
I think I've always sort of assumed that you've already written it, that the notes are scattered about or locked away in your head and it's just a matter of putting the thing together. Certainly, if that's not the case (and your photos in the first two sections are just brilliant, enough to justify the whole exercise, never mind the MR-Cabaret comparison) then I'd rather you abandon the thing instead of cranking out a rush-job. Because there is some brilliant stuff going on - it took me a long time to appreciate the subtext and layers going on in the Like a Virgin sequence, and the way that number, like the Spectacular Spectacular number, actually "tells" us what is going to happen between Satine and the Duke...but you're probably tired of me going on like this.
I'm trying to decide what to watch today. I'm split between Cassavete's "Faces", "The Lady Eve" or my sister's copy of "Sweet Charity". Ack. I hate decisions.
am having trouble getting excited about cinema this week... what with Spain's national (soccer) team having made history by FINALLY getting past the quarter finals (Iker Casillas rules!!!)
tonight we face Russia... and I've got all my fingers crossed hoping for the same results as our previous match against them (3-1).
Viva España!!!
next week I'll be 100% Wimbledon (vamos Rafa!)... and then I can start thinking / dreaming of cinema again!
Don't watch Sweet Charity. Apart from a few of the musical sequences it ain't good. Fosse's worst film for sure :(
Nat, I know many people loathe Death Proof, but ya know what? I could listen to Tarantino's utterly pointless drivel for hours on end as long as there are enough competent people yammering it out and, well, those ladies do fine stuff. I even liked Tracie Thom's... routine. Oddly enough, I think Kurt Russell gives the worst performance of the film.
And I just watched 4M3Wa2D this evening. I was sitting there and all of a sudden during the scene where Anamaria Marinca argues with her boyfriend the movie hit me like a tonne of bricks.
I have a three way tie for my winner of Best Actress in 2006. I can't decide between Winslet in Little Children, Judi Dench in Notes of a Scandal or Penelope Cruz in Volver.
And I'm going to NY for 3 weeks, got accepted to Columbia for summer school (Creative Writing) and I was wondering what Broadway shows I should see. I have August: Osage County as my top priority.

I was freaking out for like 40 minutes today because Wikipedia said Elizabeth Taylor died today.
Chocolate milk is sooooo good.
Paranoid Park is thinly disguised queer cinema.
C'mon. Look at the way the intriguing older guy looks at the youngin'. A rewatch is necessary if you disagree. I swear.

aughhh....i'm actually worried for our future because i honestly believe that both presidential candidates are equally horrible choices. what to do?
I just purchased tickets to see Elaine Stritch in Hartford this weekend.
I'm not at all excited for the next episode in the Best Pictures from the Outside In series and the sure-to-be promiscuous insulting of Crash.
I now believe that Nicole Kidman deserved that bloody golden thing for The Hours.
I saw Billy Idol on Jimmy Kimmel. He's gorgeous. He's also turning 53 this year. Everyone should age that well.
rahul that's hateful. they really had that up?
j.d. it is. If i could drink it with every other meal I would.
nate agreed.
middle-p did you love wall-e as much as my other friend who saw it today (and who loved it VERY VERY much)?
jimmy i'm worried too but nothing could be worse than Bush ... except for maybe mike huckabee (but he's not running for anything... yet)
chris she is AWESOME live. enjoy
anon really? what changed yer mind?
viennarain photo please!
I like Christina Aguilera's "Candy Man," and I don't care. And I think it's probably not as bad as liking Clive Barker's "Candyman."

I'm wondering why you gave "The Incredible Hulk" a C+ =(
Just peed on myself because the first review of The Dark Knight came out... and it's brilliant.
I seriously think Australia will sweep at the Oscars. =)
I finally sat down to watch 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days, and the disk freezes halfway through the film. Why does NetFlix hate me?
Let me catch you up on what you missed 'mason:'

I LOVED 4 Months (if one can love it, I mean). Such a subtle, brilliant, affecting movie.

I wish I had more money so I could go and see Madonna his year. Her set list looks fantastic!
I just rewatched Death Proof and, yes, those last 30 minutes are the best 30 minutes of pure unadulterated C-I-N-E-M-A of the past five years.
WHY HAS GENE HACKMAN RETIRED THERE MUST BE 1 MORE ROLE LEFT IN HIM.
Welcome to Mooseport sucked the life out of him.

runs so you're overshare is that you're avoiding sharing.
janice at this point part 3 could never live up to anyone's expectations. I barely remember parts 1 and 2 ... oy.
Cheers Nat,
Way to make me feel good about myself.

janice i won't rush it but at this point it's like a f'in sword of damacles
argh. must focus!

THE LADY EVE
Hahaha. You sound quite adamant there and I think I'll have to obey. I LOVE Stanwyck in that flick.

17 you've already chosen the top priority well. It's the only thing currently playing that everyone knows will be legendary.
once you get past that i'd worry about the shows that won't survive the summer like Xanadu and shows that everyone seems to love like South Pacific.
sunday in the park with george closes this weekend, alas...
