Regarding modfab's August:Movie casting, my suggestion is can we instead trick all those fine actresses and just make a movie about them auditioning for the roles? It’s like our era’s Scarlet O’Hara casting hype-frenzy.
OFF TOPIC
Hey Nat, I was just wondering if you know the website www.madonnaonline.com.br , I know there is a english version, I´m saying cause I´m the chart expert, named TONY, and I want to ask you this: being a huge Madonna fan, having a crush for James McAvoy, and being asked out for a week from this big, blond, blue eyed, and former college buddy of mine, how long I will be able to call myself straight? I mean, my hair is not!
Okay. August: Osage County was amazing and here are some of my "rules" that I hope they keep for casting. Make sure all of the actors in the adaptation are American. As much as I love Blanchett, Kidman, Watts, Kidman, Mirren and Judi Davis and others, don't be offended. I don't think anyone of them would fit the casting roles. I think that for this movie, the cast should be all American.
Violet- Jane Fonda, Polly Bergen, Estelle Parsons, and Deanna Dunagan. I wouldn't mind if anyone of these actresses got the part. I would love to see Fonda in it though.
Amy Morton's Role- I fucking feel like an idiot for forgetting the name, but Lisa Kudrow or Amy Morton would be good.
IF the producers pick Estelle Parsons or Deanna Dunagan than they MUST pick Amy Morton. That's what I have to say. Estelle Parsons was amazing when I saw her though. I think she could easily play Violet in the movie, and they could use the "Academy Award Winner" in the trailers and stuff, which is why I believe she has a better chance than Dunagan for the role.
On the August like:
I'm never very happy when anyone plays down Glenn Close's vulnerable side. She can be a very tender presence; her vocal work in Tarzan alone proves that, so she's certainly versatile enough to handle a complex role. She hasn't been around for nearly three decades just because she can bitch, and Fonda's screen presence has become much coarser than hers with time.
However, I'll never forgive Meryl Streep for taking the role in The Manchurian Candidate (2004) that could have been Glenn's comeback. She would have been a dream.
Meryl Streep, to me, is the perfect choice for Violet.... who cares if she is getting great parts .. she totally deserves the recognition.
For once, I disagree with Hayden.
I must be one of those people in the minority that probably hopes that Meryl Streep won't get the role of Violet in August: Osage County. I don't think she fits the part at all. I hope she doesn't get the part.
I'm kind of hoping the link to that Dark Knight review wasn't your thoughts on the film as well, Nat. Not that I'm a fan-boy who will defend the film to the death, but that stuff about how racist it was is absolutely ridiculous.
dammit, ModFab beat me to it! I'm doing an August casting of my own at the end of the month. now it'll just seem like a copy-cat.
i will say, however: as a fan of Meryl Streep, i hope she does not get the role of Violet. to me, she is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
RIP Bernie Mac and now Oscar winner Isaac Hayes
