RE: Emmylou. Absolutely. Though, it wouldn't need to be a musical. Her speaking voice is lovely. Maybe just a few tracks on the soundtrack to accompany said film ;-)
Has Bruce Springsteen done anything feature-length? I thought the greasemonkey he played in a music video years ago for his song "I'm On Fire" was outstanding. He might surprise folks even more than Madonna did.
i'd love to see jenny lewis acting again. she and zooey deschanel could star as sisters in a quirky indie movie. i'm seeing some sort of road trip. or she could do a sequel to TROOP BEVERLY HILLS in which she is now in charge of her own wilderness girl's troop.
My natural instinct is to say Siouxsie Sioux, but on second thought I'm giving a shout out to Tori Amos. I just know she has some really fucked up, hyper-sexual, creepy film inside her somewhere.
Morrissey could eke out a living playing some sort of world-weary, pithy sidekick, perhaps?
If she can clean herself up and if you could classify her as a "rock" star, I would love to see Amy Winehouse take on an acting role. Even if she just did her life story, done by someone with a strong point of view (Meirelles, von Trier, Luhrmann, or maybe even Sarah Polley) and not some studio flunkie who would turn it into Oscar Bait 101, it has the potential to be as amazing as her "Back to Black" album.
Someday, I would love to see Brittany Snow play Britney Spears. That would be my dream come true.
Gwen Stefani, I always felt, would make a wonderful action star. (Yeah, I realize she was in 'The Aviator', but it was a bit role... seriously. Seeing that girl wield a handgun and walk through a door... I think she would own that screen.)
As for an actor whom I'd love to see rock it out, McAvoy has that strange good-guy/bad-boy image in that he can play either effortlessly. If he can sing, I think it'd be interesting.
Josh Homme would be pretty magnetic on screen, I think. (I believe he did a bit part in something, but I haven't seen it.)
And even though she's been "acting" here and there for years, I'd love to see Macy Gray take on a real role -- perhaps as part of a dramatic ensemble in the "Short Cuts" vein. I have the script for her and everything.

PJ Harvey or Carla Bruni
What am I talking about? How about SIouxsie Sioux or Fab Kate Bush?.. Kate Bush in a Mike Leigh movie. That'd be amazing!
Madonna...again, but under a tough director. Lars Von Trier perhaps?
definately not madonna... talent free... how about eric clapton? that man has seen it all i'm sure he would be able to realte to a written character
Emmylou Harris. That heartbreaking voice, that silver hair.
i take it you'd still want her singing in said movie then?
anon --perhaps PJ HARVEY should recreate a Juliette Lewis role so as to return the favor from STRANGE DAYS?

Oh, and the other half...maybe Phillip Seymour Hoffman could channel his inner Meat Loaf?

Shirley Manson, from "Garbage".

yeah, shirley manson has great presence on screen...
and i'd love to see people appreciate more zooey deschanel and scarlett johansson music.

Just off the top of my head...

Rock Star:
Brandon Flowers, yum.
Actor:
I wanna see Tilda Swinton in a rock band.
Kate Bush. Even though she kinda, sorta tried it with The Line, the Cross & the Curve. But still, Anything just to see her again.
Bring back Bjork!!!
And why have we never seen Tori Amos in the movies.
As far as Rock boys, I'd like to see Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and, this is weird, but I think Elton John should give it a shot.
even though i'm not a fan, Gwen Stefani in Cool is great, she should defintely give it a try
the culkins doing a culkin 5 would crack me up
Tori Amos was in Mona Lisa Smile.
I hesitate to call him a 'rock' star, but I feel that Billy Joel might just make a good actor. I can see him as a tired PI in his own series.
You did ask vice versa, but that's hard without hearing them sing.
The Holy Trinity of Tori Amos (God the Mother), PJ Harvey (God the Daughter) and Bjork (God the Spirit)!
Carla Bruni in a porn movie!
jaded in one movie? the world would explode!
Meat Loaf definitely needs to skip the rock from now on & concentrate on getting some juicy film & tv roles. He's great!
Billy Idol, not playing himself.
annie lennox
dave grohl
james marsden
Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars.
Oh, wait...
