The Witches of Eastwick in 2008

La Pfeiffer, Cher and Sarandon... photographed in 2008

I'm aware that John Updike did not like the film version of his classic novel The Witches of Eastwick. But now that he's written its sequel, set three decades later appropriately titled The Widows of Eastwick... can we please have a movie sequel? Pretty pretty pretty please. I know the experience wasn't exactly a happy one for the actresses involved or the author himself but could you imagine seeing these three legends together again one last time? Who needs the devilish Jack Nicholson?

I mean Alexandra Jane and Sukie dumped him in the first movie anyway. When does filming start? Oh come on! LET'S GO HOLLYWOOD, LET'S GO. Which devil do I have to sell my soul to to make this fantasy happen? My soul is available at a discount for this one.

This post may not seem scary enough for Halloween but I bet you Veronica Cartwright is pretty damn unnerved whilst staring at it. She may even projectile vomit!

Pfeiffer and Sarandon still look bangin'. No disrespect to Cher meant, it's just that she's far too plasticated. The other two? Rawr. I hope I look that hot when I'm their ages.

I've actually heard there's an (other) Eastwick TV series in development. But I somehow doubt they could get any of the three superstars back for that ;-)

mrripley -- if you chase the veronica cartwright label below the post, there's a link to a good interview with her. i think she's underused too.

eric -- not for tv no. but i bet they could be coaxed back for a sequel. provided they had director & script approval this time. even Cher!

DO YOU BELIEVE IN...............

Nate, I just watched your video diversion and I thought of my friend Elissa . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kGLaRsywm8

that's funny. but the christina aguilera bit is even funnier (albeit a minute too long... but still FUNNY)

are you in any of her videos?

Oh man, I would SO be in line to see the sequel, no doubt. Witches of Eastwick is one of my "comfort" movies, odd as that may sound. Watching it totally makes me feel like all is right with the world. I could just watch Veronica Cartwright groping her nether regions and talking about the devil's tickle tickle tickle.

Don't you think, after having seen "Happy-Go-Lucky", that its Oscar chances are rather small? I think it's lovely but somehow I don't even believe in Sally Hawkins getting shortlisted - the film looks so small, so "effortless" and so British (and not "Atonement" kind of British which certainly won't help).

it'll be an uphill climb sure. it is effortless and lovely -- in this way i think it's similar to RACHEL GETTING MARRIED. both seem deceptively simple. only they're not.

i just interviewed sally today so i'll have that interview up for you guys next week.

poor michelle pfeiffer, the only one in that love huddle without an oscar...maybe jack can give her one of his three.

are you typing english? because that comment makes no sense to me. in fact... i am pretty sure Pfeiffer has won 3 Oscars already. There's also a postage stamp and an appreciation museum in California and I believe her birthday is now a national holiday. Federal employees get a paid day off!

I´ve slept with the 3 of them!

What?

If Nat can dream, so can I, and my dreams are always dirty!

There's things I liked better about the book, too. I liked how all three witches cast an individual spell and found the man of their dreams. (I thought the spells were pretty cool).

Darryl Van Horne ran away to the city with the gorgeous son of the projectile vomiter to live the high life and have endless fun. I don't think the son was even in the movie - too bad, because I liked that end for The Devil and the witches better.

Great to see more love for Happy Go Lucky. And is Hawkins as gorgeous in real life as she is in a movie? Did you get on the ground and bow to her when she stepped into the room? I hope you did.

I'm sorry...

This had nothing to do with your new post, but I just have to say that Changeling (or however you spell that shit) was GOD-AWFUL!!!!

BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD...Please take the film and everyone involved out of your predictions for the Oscars. It's not even worthy of a Razzie. A forgetable film. It should remain that way.

I hated every second. NOONE could salvage the movie! Not John, Not Amy, and not even Angelina!

The script was typical. It felt like a fucking lifetime movie. Cheesy score. You had 15 differennt endings (or felt like it should have ended 15 times!)

I was WAY more interested in the killer! That's what the movie should have been about. It should have been about the case, with the story of Christine Collins as a subplot, that way Angelina would have made more sense. Her character was too boring to make a 2 and half hour film about.

I kept saying to myself "I GET IT".

Clint? NO!!! If he gets any attention from the Academy, it is because he is Clint Eastwood. This film was...unecessary. Hated it! Hated it! Hated it! Because me and my friends went all over LA to find a theatre near us that played it. We go, and we are so dissapointed, it made the entire night sour......then we got home, and watched Marica Gay Harden from the Dead Girl. That's who Angelina needs to pay attention to if you play a grieving mother.

Angeline literally CRIED the ENTIRE time!!! Who was behind the editing desk, because it made her look TERRIBLE!!! No body was real in this movie. Fluff and overrated and bad.

Oh, man. Veronica Cartwright freaked me OUT in that film. I remember feeling really shaken by that whole vomiting scene. Of course, I was 12 or 13 or something. But it freaked me out.

The photo with the four of them in bed is utterly ORGASMIC. Maybe the four of them will consider reuniting for the sequel as long as George Miller is not the director. Though they're gonna need to use major prosthetics on Pfeiffer and Sarandon to make them age 30 years because both of them do not look a day older than when they made the last Witches (ok, I'm exaggerating, but as catherine said, they still look BANGIN'). Cher... well... nevermind.

Veronica Cartwright was awesome in the film. She freaked the hell out of me too. The cherry scene, oh god, the cherry scene.

I'm not a huge fan of the film overall, but I'm eternally grateful for it because it was La Pfeiff's first B.O hit and it paved the way for her triple slam dunk in '88.

that's right, mr. rogers, she does have 3 oscars! and my, they are shiny. now just sign this paper saying the LA police department gave you back the right son and you are free to go...

"i won't sign that!"
