supporting actress... viola? or cruz?
supporting actor ledger! ledgeR! or shannon
nice vid!
Viola Davis will win supporting.
Yes, more videos!!! I enjoy your editing too.
Nathaniel ranked Reprise ahead of WALL.E in his halfway post. Not that it foretells anything. I'm more excited by the idea that for the first time ever, a foreign language film could win the film bitch award: Crouching Tiger, In the Mood for Love, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Talk to Her, Volver - all medalists without going the whole way.
I expect his top five to be something of: The Wrestler, Rachel Getting Married, The Class, Reprise and WALLE (not in that order).
Fantastic promo. Love the choice of song. It's got me interested!
arkaan -- about that halfway post (i disagree with myself on a lot of it --not necessarily on everything but some rankings have changed dramatically -- and am trying to rewatch or at least skim some of the movies again as I write things up)
but yes I still love REPRISE ;)
Wow, FB awards so soon? So is this the place to throw out our FYC:s?
Yes Yes Yes to a video show!
whoever the flamenco teacher in Happy-Go-Lucky was for best female cameo!
A smattering of my favorite films of the year are below. I know you've seen quite a few on the list, but if you missed one of two, please consult your DVD rental service. I'm including ones you've seen just to give you a taste of my, um, taste, since I believe it lines up somewhat well with yours.
"4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days"
"The Class"
"The Edge of Heaven"
"Encounters at the End of the World"
"Jellyfish"
"Let the Right One In"
"Milk"
"My Winnipeg"
"Paranoid Park"
"Reprise"
"Jellyfish," in particular, is a film I implore you to seek out before you announce your nominations. A literate, beautiful tapestry of magical realism dedicated to the lives of Israeli women? C'mon, Nat.

Predicting the film bitches? Oh my.
Things that could be described as filmbitch bait: leading ladies, stars, ensembles (note: actual ensembles, meaning interaction between many cast members, well cast minor roles, etc), a definable but not excessive aesthetic.
So, it's between THE CLASS and RACHEL GETTING MARRIED for the top spot, using his own grades as a guide. MILK, REPRISE, WALLE, and THE WRESTLER are fighting for those three spots, and I think MILK will be the one kicked to sixth. TROUBLE THE WATER is not eligible, because Nathaniel's a big meanie to documentaries (not the real reason, but we'll go with it).
So the final four slots in his ten? Well, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY was a borderline A-/B+ movie before he settled on B+, so does that mean he found more problems with it that knocked it down a notch? Will his appreciation of the refreshingly adult ELEGY boost it up? Will A CHRISTMAS TALE suffer in comparison to KINGS AND QUEEN - afterall, it's the boyfriend who's the francophile, not the film bitch? Will Woody return?
If you look at Nathaniel's previous top tens (as he groans in the background, wondering how exactly he became the obsession of so many), the lower portion generally lists good/great Hollywood productions with less substance (BRING IT ON, X2, THE INCREDIBLES, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) and auteurs who he doesn't entirely embrace or lesser works from ones he does (DOGVILLE, BAD EDUCATION, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, INSIDE MAN, THE DEPARTED).
So, predicting his top ten...
1. Rachel Getting Married
2. The Class
3. The Wrestler
4. WALL.E
5/6. Reprise
5/6. Milk
7. Elegy
8. Happy-Go-Lucky
9. A Christmas Tale
10. In Bruges
So, Nathaniel, how far was I?
I'm not groaning but I'm a little nervous.
on another note: i'm really pissed i missed PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. it's not showing anywhere here and people keep talking about it and it's not on dvd for another week or so. argh.
too late for my list.
i rented Pineapple Express from my video store on christmas eve ???

FYC
Emily Mortimer, Transsiberian
FYC:
I'm not sure whether you will give/have given an award for Best Song from a Motion Picture, but
The Call- Regina Spektor for "Chronicles of Narnia."
While I detest the movie, Regina Spektor is my favorite musical artist. I think she would have a very "Once"-esque appeal to movie fans, given her style.
Plus she is the only redeeming factor to that film.
"Funhouse" is, ironically, the only song on Pink's new CD (which I got for Christmas) that I'm not crazy about (and I am CRAZY about that CD) but it works perfectly here. So you're going to do more videos? Count me in!
Off topic (sort of), it pains me that the only things I would consider nominating Australia for are cinematography and costume design. I had SO looked forward to that movie for over a year, and hoped Baz would bring on the magic, as he did with MR. Damn you, Baz.
FYC for Best Action Scene/Character Intro: Tai Lung's jailbreak in Kung Fu Panda. GAWD-DAYUM.
For Your Consideration:
WALL-E for all categories, including Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Character Intro (Eve), Best End Credits, etc.
Richard Jenkins for Best Actor in The Visitor (as well as whatever else you'd like to nominate from that movie)
"Money, Money, Money" from Mamma Mia! for Best Musical Number! Haha. You know you love it.
I know you didn't like Prince Caspian, but I'd just like to throw out "The Call" by Regina Spektor for Best Original Song.
Of course Heath for The Dark Knight, but I'd love to see Gary Oldman on your list as well for Supporting Actor. He was the backbone of the movie in my opinion. Also, Best Ensemble!
~Steven
