hi,the man who shoulda won the oscar for in the bedroom and shouldn't have been nominated for michael clayton,i really cant understand him being in your top 5 for last year did you really think he was that good, come on nat explain, when i rewatch it i am less impressed with everyone inc tilda and esp clooney.
I can't speak for Nat, but I adore Mr. Wilkinson, and while I haven't seen MC since my second viewing when it came out on DVD, I too thought he deserved to win the Oscar for that.
But my favorite performance of his is his Dr. Howard Mierzwiak in Eternal Sunshine. His scenes with Kirsten Dunst are like brief poems of heartbreak.
Oh man, I love Tom Wilkinson. Did anyone see that TV movie "Normal," where he undergoes a sex change? It was an interesting study in mannered resistance to sensationalism, which sometimes became paradoxically distracting as it tried convince you at every turn how very very understated it was, but his performance really was what made what worked about it work.
I also like his cartoonishly gangsta side, as in The Dark Night and RocknRolla. I thought his Michael Clayton role was a nice negotiaton between his "tough" and "understated/sensitive" modes. And just think how awful that "Shiva" monologue could have been in another actor's mouth.
I like how BeRightBack corrected his mistake, yet still got the wrong film.
Tom Wilkinson is an amazing actor, and I still think he should have been nominated for The Full Monty. That scene where he breaks down after his job interview gets screwed up is heartbreaking, and would have made a great Oscar clip. It makes me proud to be English every time I see him on screen (and I don't think that a lot).

Now where's his Oscar?
Not only was he great in Clayton, he simply should have won it all last year.
Quality all-around actor, I like him.

hear hear on Eternal Sunshine. How everybody doesn't just crumble with memories of that movie whenever they see Tom & Kirsten I just don't know...
mr ripley my explanations are always right there on the awards pages. I give you more than most people who just list names.

@BRB: Haha, I meant The Dark Knight of course. It's not an effective pun if you just spell it out, after all.
Wilkinson is fantastic... all he needs is an Oscar, and like any great British thesp, a two-minute cameo in a Harry Potter film.

Heheh, I share a birthday with Tom Wilkinson. Although I'm 19 today...not quite the same as him heheh. Love his works, and hope we keep getting them!
The Jack: Hah! Too many Batman movies! They blurred in my mind! The End Is The Beginning Is The End! Wait, that's the wrong Batman movie too!
Amazing blog! I am one of those Eternal Sunshine freaks. While Cassandra's Dream was not a spectacular movie, Tom Wilkerson was great in it.
I was only watching In The Bedroom yesterday and remembering how ROBBED he was of an Oscar. He gives me chills with that performance.
