What was that?

I'm a bit concerned about Hugh Jackman. I know Australia's out in the major categories, but isn't appointing him host still some sort of conflict of interest?

It's almost as bad as when co-stars and significant others present awards.

Your grade for I'VE LOVED YOU SO LONG worries me. I was really hoping you'll love Kristin Scott Thomas' performance. I honestly cannot wait to hear your response about her.

I saw Revolutionary Road at BAM Rose last week and I loved it. Winslet is fantastic and Mendes didn't fetishize the period or make it too Oscar-baity, aside from the first scene, which had me worried.

I also saw Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber in Barnes & Noble on W. 66th. I nearly fainted. (:

Hurry up SAG, we need to find out the nominations NOW.

Will you be changing your predictions soon?

Why isn't Kidman on the greatest of all times list when it includes Moore and Winslet?!?!!?

It makes me very sad to think that this will be the first year that Meryl Streep will be nominated for an Oscar and not be mentioned as a Film Bitch Award shortlister. Both times that she was nominated at the Oscars this decade, she was a medallist, too! I guess this year breaks that pattern.

Hayden, Jackman was hosting the Tonys the same year he won. I don't think that it will be that big of a conflict of interest. And remember Billy Crystal hosted the Oscars when Jack Pallance won.

kent i may be interviewing Kristin next week (shhhh) so i don't wanna say too much about it now.

david if you go back through the years Meryl basically gets as much love from me as she does form Oscar but not always for the same performances.

18 but i agree with Hayden that hosting when you're up for honors is kinda tacky. I'm ok in this instance since Jackman won't be himself and AUSTRALIA will obviously not be a major forc... but I thought it was supremely tacky when, say, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane hosted the TONYS on the night of their sweep. blech.

Meryl Streep/Doubt/Oscar is the crazyest thing. Meryl is getting some of the most divided reactions of her career(Just see Manohla Dargis love/hate review for Streep) but will still be nominated on name and buzz alone.

Lame!

Still, if she prevents the awful Kate Winslet from winning an Oscar, all will be good with the world.

So Meryl's extra nomination in 2006 for a Prairie Home Companion will basically balance her impending FB exclusion this year? And so Oscar is catching up, making it three for three this decade?

Finally saw Slumdog Millionaire. Solid movie with an incredibly satisfying payoff at the end, but wasn't it hard to root for Jamal at times since Boyle was much more interested in the film's style than investing interest in the character?

Definite crowd-pleaser with some wonderful moments, but it becomes a bit of a Disneyland at times.

P.S. Awesome near-cameo performance by Irfan Khan as the police inspector which I would recommend to your "Best Cameo" decision you were asking for earlier.

How the hell did Seth Rogen become a legitimate comic actor? The guy just...shows up and plays himself. Even The Sandler-Carrey-Stiller guys do something that distinguish them, even if it's one joke over and over again. But Rogen doesn't even do that- he doesn't have a funny voice or face or timing or anything. He just gets that one character - The stoner. he REALLY gets it, so he brings this sincerity to the screen that differs him from other actors, but it doesn't make him funny.

I mean, if the guy would have been in dramas- then i would SO much appreciate him more.

Also - His has the worst normal voice ever. He should use a bloody accent then he acts - then his performances would get much better.

But i'll give him this- guy's smart choosing-scripts-wise. Real smart.
