Viola Davis is wearing gold. I think she thinks she's going to win. Maybe she is. And I'm suddenly positive that Sean Penn is going to take his second trophy. Wish I had predicted it.
My house is packed with people. Eek. They've collectively figured out the Oscar fashions: All the actresses (everyone in white white white) think they're marrying Jay Manuel. Ewww. The images that conjures. I'm very afraid.
9:02 PM LOVING THE SHOW SO FAR. Seriously.

Is it just me, or are the fashions this year a little bleurgh? Everyone's very dull and demure. Recession chic?
love the supportin actress preseentation - very emotional.
Hugh's opening number was really good, I though. Although the acting presentations are a bit off. Ten minutes and no clips? Yikes.
VERY emotional speech by Dustin Lance Black. I'm glad he won now.
I started crying when those 5 Supporting Actresses came out. Seriously, you guys. I don't even care that Slundog will win everything. This ceremony is fantastic.
the screenplays presentation was very good, and Martin and Fey were cool
I hate the I just cried during the Oscars, but Dustin Lance Black's speech was one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
Yeah, Hugh Jackman just has a terrific stage presence. I liked the way they did the screenplays presentation, too. And Dustin Lance Black's speech was wonderful.
Can Tina Fey and Steve Martin make a movie together?
Bad taste: Jack Black presenting animated film. Sure, he was funnier than usual, but nevertheless, surely they could've got someone who wasn't in one of the nominated films.
Between the opening number and the supporting actress introduction - this show is FANTASTIC.
And I'm also drunk.
My friends and I have this game:
Everytime you get a category wrong, finish your drink.
Everytime you get a category right, take a shot.
just cried my way through dustin lance black's acceptance speech. beautiful.
Even worse: the "animation in 2008" reel without any non-American film, but with Space Chimps and Clone Wars -- they weren't even on the Oscar long list!
I also loved DLB's speech - almost enough to forgive them that the worst screenplay of the five won.
I like the art direction/costume/make up medley. Makes sense, really. And I much prefer the montages of 2008 films instead of "movies with trees in them throughout the ages!" or whatever they would've come up with normally.
LOVE how the teleprompter knows exactly why each nominee was picked! (The Dark Knight's makeup nom for The Joker alone, indeed.)
LOVED the romance montage! Especially the shout-outs to Milk and WALL·E.
the acting award presentation was so eyed wide shut
Did I see Kidman sitting next to Luhrmann ? In a pale blue dress ?
She could be presenting the lead Oscar with Loren and 3 other chicks, ala Supporting Actress
why would jessica biel present? who is she?
im not amused with the ben stiller schtick. i think jauquin phoenix is going thru some sort of serious mental breakdown. to make fun of that is not funny.
I admit Hugh Jackman has something that automatically turns you a little bit gay. Not full on gay. But less straight. Like, 10% less.
Devon
this comedy thing is horrible
I agree that the Apatow's "short" was pretty stupid, but I liked the totally random apppearance of Kaminski. Why aren't more non-actors allowed to present?
OF COURSE Luhrmann spliced together that musical medley! Brilliant.
Can Baz be the producer next year?
"Recession Chic" -- Good one, Catherine.
That musical montage was cringe inducing. The ceremony so far has been so good... very unfortunate.
To hail Mamma Mia! as a return to form for musical films should be a punishable offense. And Beyonce can do a great many things. Sing Ir
Michael Shetina
Sing Irving Berlin... not so much that should have read.
Michael Shetina
I kind of agree with Michael. The musical number was ok, but it was really . . . blah.
It has had its highs and lows so far.
Opening Number: High
DLB Win/Speech Speech: High
Romance Montage: Not Bad
Comedy Montage: Awful
Musical Medley Number: Really Bad
The Good news? I'm 9 for 11 on predictions so far.
There were parts of the comedy piece that were very funny. Particularly the Doubt and The Reader moments. But there's no need for The Love Guru or Zohan to be mentioned or shown in an Academy Awards telecast.
Anything to see more James Franco though, I say! And the Kaminski throwin was hilarious. "Suck on that Anthony Dod Mantle!"
Also: This telecast has featured Werner Herzog and Januzs Kaminski prominantly and Jackman referenced Francious Truffaut. Amazing!
Robert Patterson looks way too hot. I'm also live blogging.
Oh jesus FUCK. John Legend isn't fit to be in the same room as Peter Gabriel let alone perform his song. What dull lifeless song performances. Rahman isn't really a live performer, is he? Yikes. "O Saya" was the best of the nominees but the performance was just... got lost.
fuck slumdog
I didn't like Amy Adams' necklace, btw.
the Return of the Musical number almost had me in tears, for various reasons, both good and bad. Baz did well, but why oh why did God take Fosse?
Loved the way the screenplay categories were presented. Tina Fey is divine as ever.
//I admit Hugh Jackman has something that automatically turns you a little bit gay. Not full on gay. But less straight. Like, 10% less.//
Devon, apparently that same "something" automatically turns unsuspecting lesbians (myself) a little bit hetero. Not enough to leave my wife or anything, but you know what I mean.
