Oh Say Can You See Jennifer Hudson?

The only Super Bowl post you'll probably ever see here

I love that she points on the high note near the end. It's like "yep, I'm going there. Dayum, but I can sing!" Her pronunciation on "perilously" and "gallantly" though ... is Jennifer an ESL student?

My point is somehow this: After all she's been through, isn't it wonderful to see JHud again and in such good voice? [update: they say it was lip-synched but it sure looked live to me. Alas, I'm no expert at such things.]

Her performance will be up there if not about Whitney Houston's. We missed u J-Hud, Welcome Back!

I think that's just her accent.

Always been a J-Hud fan since her Idol days - I'm not a big Nat'l Anthem softie, but her perf made me cry.

Don't know if it was her singing, her trials, or if I was just in need of a nap, but damn, if she ain't got it going on!

She was unbelievable! Yay Jennifer! I wouldn't be able to come out of house if what's happened to her happened to me, but she manages to do that. That's a strong woman right there. Awesome.

nono -- what kind of accent would that be exactly? i think it's closer to the mangled english of singers who never knew a syllable they couldn't squeeze 6 notes into.

but i luv her!

Ok, so is it lame that I teared up while watching? I feel like a new man, Jennifer Hudson will change your life. ;)

my favorite part in the big breath she takes before she starts

i only understood about 20% of the lyrics, though

There should be an iTunes feature where we can hear Super Bowl National Anthems through the ages. The side by side by side by side... would be really interesting.

@Par: It's just some jizz about ramparts and bein' free. You know how we do here in the States.

Maybe it's just because I'm not knowledgable of the lyrics to "Star Spangled Banner" but I didn't understand any of that past the first few lines.

I feel for her, but I don't really like her as a star. Everytime in interviews, doesn't she sound kind of ... stupid? And her constant I-owe-everything-to-God-routine is soooooooo a few centuries ago.

Also: Bruce was all sorts of excellent.

Yes, Bruce was excellent. That was the only part of the Super Bowl I watched, honestly. I love him, but not enough to turn my attention from the Puppy Bowl.

C'mon Nat, Ebonics is an English patois.

You've ordered at the McDonalds around the corner, right?

I'm much more a Beyoncé person (even though Hudson starred in SatC: the movie)

Jennifer Hudson doesn't speak in "ebonics". Her speaking voice is fine. Cut that racist shit out already.

verninino said...

Dude, not every use of the word Ebonics is racist. I know, cause I'm black and I don't hate black people.

And I'm not saying she speaks Ebonics, but I am saying she was singing it.

Cut that PC crap out.

No she wasn't singing in "ebonics" at all last night.

lip-synced. Depressing.

Lip synched or not, unintelligible lyrics, mangled pronunciations, and all, SHE GOT THE JOB DONE. Touching, heartfelt, and passionately performed.

great job JHud. she's been through hell & back....can't begin to even imagine.

Why was Hudson chosen to sing at such a big prime time event? There are a lot more singers out there - real singers - that have more experience and talent. She does not have a real music career.

And she lip synched. I don't care if Faith Hill or somebody else in the past did it too. If you're going to let people lip synch a great song at a big event then next time get Milli Vanilli to do it. They were fakers too but they they put on bigger shows and sold more albums than Hudson.

Whitney lipped hers too. They all do it. It doesn't reduce the effectiveness of the vocal in anyway. And Jennifer Hudson is as "real" a singer as they come.

I did not watch this "Superbowl" that seems to be so popular amongst the masses, but I did watch Miss Hudson. Fan-fucking-tastic! She is a force of nature. Inspiring!

turns out she was lip-synching

Jennifer Hudson beat out Whitney Houston for the best Super Bowl National Anthem by a long shot -- lip synch or no lip synch
