Day of Rest
Shhhhhh... Fran is sleeping. She needs a day of rest before she's able to face Monday... and Thursday. And Monday again and Thursday again...

I have been reading a lot of mixed reviews and opinions regarding Ingrid Bergman oscar-winning performance in "Anastasia". What is your perspective, Nathaniel? Is hers an exquisite, artistic expression or an overacted embodying of a character? That very year, 1956, Deborah Kerr lost for "The King and I" and many legendary performances were not even nominated, such as Marilyn Monroe in "Bus Stop", Audrey Hepburn in "War and Peace", Dorothy McGuire in "Friendly Persuasion", Elizabeth Taylor in "Giant" and Grace Kelly in both "High Society" and "The Swan".
it has been so long since i've seen any of those movies I wouldn't dare say. The most recent one I saw was Bus Stop like 10 years ago (which... i thought Monroe was great in it) so perhaps I shall have to add this to the wishlist of things to eventually write about
I'm not a big fan of Monroe's acting abilities. She was a great star - probably the best there ever was. Maybe it's me - but I thought she was pretty awful in "Bus Stop." Terrible overwrought accent, etc. In terms of potential oscar nominations - the two possibilities / she possibly deserved nominations were: "Seven Year Itch" & "Some Like it Hot."
Seeing Marilyn in Bus Stop makes me remember why I like Kim Stanley so much. I wish she had reprised her stage role.

Thank you all! My favourite Marilyn's performances should be the ones in "The Prince and the Showgirl", "Some Like It Hot" and "The Misfits". She was simply magical in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" as well. Anyway, she created a lot of love in a very natural way, which made her all the most magnetic. In other words, she had a lot of beauty not only in the outside, which was/is/will always be obvious, but also in the inside, which endows her with a far more powerful weapon than all the talent in the whole wide world.
oh no! you took nicole off your banner?! did you not drool @ Australia in blu-ray?
I'm always ready to drool on Nicole ;) but the banner rotates every few days
Hello! how did we get on marilyn here. Shirley would be horrified. or maybe not, since she was probably marilyn in a past life.
THE APARTMENT still holds up after all these years. In fact, I think it's due for a remake. Wouldn't Ann Hathaway make a great Shirley McClain. Surely Shirley would approve.
Just about anything Jack Lemmon and Shirley Mac Lain made were cinematic gold, but i guess my favorites would be....
Jack in SOME LIKE IT HOT (which oddly goes back to Marilyn!) MISTER ROBERTS, and the narrater of the boy grown old in THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE
Shirley in TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, THE CHILDRENS HOUR, and POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE.
Of course you can see these two teamed up again in IRMA LA DUECE
happy flicking
