I haven't seen Citizen Kane, which is really bad but even worse...considering I'm a Jew...is the fact that I haven't seen Schindler's List. Don't like admitting to that one.
Though I think not having seen Star Wars is a MUCH bigger travesty. Ya'll get on that right now.
Up until a few months ago, it was Star Wars, but I finally saw all six. Now, it'd have to be The Godfather -- I've seen up to the horse's head at least 10x, but for some reason never made it through the whole film. I intend to eventually.
I also haven't seen Casablanca and that feels pretty embarrassing.
'Pulp Fiction'. Too young to see it when it came out, my friends rented it twice (!) for movie nights. First time, I had to leave for the airport before we finally got to it, and the 2nd time, my roommate had to shoo us all away to take her cat to an emergency vet visit.
I got really excited when I caught it on TV once, late at night, after a long day. Promptly fell asleep 7 minutes in, woke up in the morning, took the tape out, discovered that the ages-old vcr had mangled it beyond usability.
Coincidences?! ...yeah, most probably, yes, but I'd like to see it as a conspiracy of some kind. :)
I hate to say that I've dedicate 90 minutes of my life watching From Justin to Kelly...yet can't find the time to watch some classics like Citizen Kane or Raging Bull.
Shout out to Devin: I also own Casablanca and still haven't seen it.
But my biggest shame has to be The Godfather movies (all of them... though I once randomly saw a small portion of part 2)
Other movies I saw ages ago but remember next to nothing about are Citizen Kane and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. And I own both of those as well. I should get on that.
The sad part is how many hours I've watched and rewatched every episode of Battlestar Galactica this year, instead of watching canonical films... I've really had time to see every film on my MFA cinema literacy list, and more.
"From Justin to Kelly" is awesome. It's like "Mamma Mia!" but it's more self-aware, so it dives headfirst into the unabashed awfulness, rather than railing (unsuccessfully) against it (if that makes sense).
And to all the "Godfather" people...I'm about to make a very controversial statement, but you're not missing much. Fosse deserved the Oscar. There I said it.
There needs to be some kind of support group for all of us who've never sat through a complete Star Wars or LOTR film. It's good to know I'm not alone.
I'm renting "From Justin to Kelly" right now. I don't care if it hurts the integrity of my husband's Netflix list (Yes, he worries about the integrity of his list). I'm actually curious to see what they will recommend for us once I throw this into the mix.
The Nightmare Before Christmas. It's really embarassing, right? I always see the first 20 minutes at school on Halloween and then....school is over. Also: Gone with the wind.
Bicycle Thieves, The 400 Blows, and Breathless...and I own all three in their beautiful Criterion Collection packages. Hopefully one day soon I'll remove the discs.
Oh, and Christhian's comment almost made me pee a little.
Agreed. Or much of any Godard/Truffaut and european cinema in general from the '40s/'50s/'60s. Sophie's Choice (it's DVD is hard to track down in Australia) and This is Spinal Tap are two other titles mentioned that I can concur with.
Thankfully I have seen all the Godfather movies, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane and a whole bunch of Kubrick/Kurosawa/Bergman.
I'm upset (though not all that embarrassed, since it's not on DVD) that I still haven't seen Greed in either the two-hour or four-hour versions. I also haven't seen nearly enough Japanese cinema outside of the Big Three (Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi) - I've seen exactly nothing by either Naruse or Oshima.
My actual biggest shame is literary: despite being an English double major in college, with a concentration in 19th Century British fiction, and taking four classes where Charles Dickens featured prominently, I've still never read A Tale of Two Cities.
Also, The Godfather is much overrated, but Part II is one of the best films of the 1970s.
Nick... we've talked many times about your plans for A Star is Born '54 but i didn't know about Pandora's Box and I can't wait for you to see that. It's one of my favorite silents and I'm cuckoo for silents.
I was born 1994 and didn't start being interested in movie since some month ago, so i have almost not seen any of the classics from pre 70. Though i've seen Star Wars.
Nathaniel- Godfather II is better than the first, see it as long as you've got many spare hours.
Embarrassed to have never seen: anything by Bergman The Best Years of Our Lives The Birth of a Nation The Color Purple Fantasia Shane Giant Greed My Fair Lady
Happy to have never seen: Dances With Wolves Ghost Dirty Dancing
Fanny and Alexander. And 8 1/2 -- at least I don't remember having seen it. My graduate days were such a haze (let's not get into why), sometimes I pop in a "new" film and realize, "hey, I have seen this!".
BTW, Nat, finally saw Playtime last week. Blew me away. Zowie.
also happy to have never seen "dances with woLVES"....HAVE NOT SEEN "SLUMDOG" - have no real interest to. didn't see "the reader" - not interested. want to see milk &christina barcelona.
I could list at least a thousand films right now, but I'm just gonna do ten:
Control (yes) Farewell My Concubine It's a Wonderful Life My Own Private Idaho The Passion of Joan of Arc Schindler's List The Silence of the Lambs Singin' in the Rain A Streetcar Named Desire Taxi Driver
I've also never seen The Godfather or Citizen Kane, but meh, I'm not "ashamed" of either.
Oh, I'm sick about some of these things I'm reading. Everyone stop what you're doing and go watch those movies! The Deer Hunter...everyone! Godfather 1 and 2...post haste!!!
Dr.Strangelove, Pulp Fiction, To Kill A Mockingbird...don't make me cry! Go all, and watch these films!
As for me...it's The Bicycle Thief...and I promise I'll watch it before tax day.
To fully 'fess up, here are all the titles mentioned in this thread that I haven't seen:
From Justin To Kelly Talladega Nights Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Sophie's Choice Innocent Blood a Star is Born (1954) the King of Comedy (the one I mentioned) the Color Purple Control a Streetcar Named Desire
eek Brian... i must scold you on the A STAR IS BORN front (i always bug Nick about this too) because it's Judy Garland's best performance and since she's one of my five favorite actresses of all time, trust me that that's saying a lot.
Gone With the Wind. And Showgirls. My friend is sitting me down to watch the former in a week or so, and maybe she'd be interested in a double feature.
12 Angry Men, Casablanca, The Godfather II, A Bout de Souffle, The 400 Blows, Singing in the Rain are INEXCUSABLE! Go see them now. I'm also inexcusable, i've left to see all bergan but one, which I loved, something like Youth divine treasure-- All ozu, kurosawa and all fellini but la strada which i really liked and last but not least, all orson welles but citizen kane pretty shameful
I know, I know. It's not that I don't want to watch it. It just doesn't feel like the sort of thing to sit down and rent. Films with a reputation as strong as that, I'd prefer to see on the big screen for my first viewing, if its at all possible. But for whatever reason (its length?) that film doesn't come around to local rep. theatres very often. The last time it played the Castro four years ago, the owners had just fired the longtime, beloved programmer and I would have had to break a picket line to enter the theatre.
As a self-professed musical lover, I am ashamed to admit that I have not seen Moulin Rouge!. However, I bought it last night and plan on watching it tonight. I'm hoping it lives up to my veryyyyyyyyyyy high expectations!

The Godfather....
...eesh!
I'm really ashamed by this. It's one of my deepest, darkest secrets. (Along with the fact that I hate The Catcher in the Rye. Oops. Loose lips today.)
The Usual Suspects.
Star Wars... all of them...
The Grapes of Wrath.
All About Eve
Blade Runner.
Gone with the Wind.
The Sound of Music
Casablanca. And I own it.
Donnie Darko
Movies I've never seen: "The Deer Hunter" and any of the "Star Wars" series all the way through.
Side note: for books, I also share the "Catcher in the Rye" hate, CT.
From Justin To Kelly
Gone with the Wind.
We should ALL be ashamed we haven't seen that movie, RobUK.
Tokyo Story... or ANY Ozu.
- Michael Shetina
Citizen Kane...
Citizen Kane and Psycho
All the movies mentioned above (aside from The Sound of Music and Star Wars)... God!
Hi. My names Josh and I... sorry this is hard for me to say... I haven't seen Goodfellas. I've hired it so many times... but... I never watch it!
Most Hitchcock including Psycho...
Citizen Kane. AND I don't like the Godfather...
... I know, I'm a bad person!
The Godfather, Casablanca, and Gone with the Wind.
Psycho and Dr Strangelove. really only because they've been sitting in my dvd collection for over 6 months and i haven't got around to them yet
Pulp Fiction.
The Sound of Music...and I'm gay! :-(
The Godfather I, II & III...
The entire LOTR trilogy...
Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Talladega Nights (my family gives me a hard time on that last one)
Guess that's why I write a music blog...
I keep meaning to see "The Magnificent Ambersons," what with my "Touch of Evil" and "Citizen Kane" love.
I too never liked "Catcher," although on a second reading really admired "Franny & Zooey."
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
To Kill A Mockingbird...so much shame
By the way, Nathaniel, what is yours?
Up until a few months ago, it was Star Wars, but I finally saw all six. Now, it'd have to be The Godfather -- I've seen up to the horse's head at least 10x, but for some reason never made it through the whole film. I intend to eventually.
I also haven't seen Casablanca and that feels pretty embarrassing.
Any Tarantino.
La Dolce Vita
Ashamed I haven't yet seen anything by Orson Welles outside of "Citizen Kane" and ashamed that I didn't like "A Clockwork Orange" all that much.
The LOTR and Star Wars Series, (but im not too embarrased)
'Pulp Fiction'. Too young to see it when it came out, my friends rented it twice (!) for movie nights. First time, I had to leave for the airport before we finally got to it, and the 2nd time, my roommate had to shoo us all away to take her cat to an emergency vet visit.

Gone with the Wind, Indiana Jones (entire series), West Side Story
I hate to say that I've dedicate 90 minutes of my life watching From Justin to Kelly...yet can't find the time to watch some classics like Citizen Kane or Raging Bull.
Too many too mention, but "Seven Samurai" and "The Grand Illusion" spring to mind. Especially cause my brothers owned "Seven Samurai" for over a year.
I haven't seen a single Star Wars film. Not a single one.
The Goonies
Whenever I tell people I've never seen it, they look at me like I was robbed of innocence as a child
I haven't seen anything by Bergman or Kurosawa.
And I have an undergraduate degree in film studies.
And I graduated with honors.
The shame...
Shout out to Devin: I also own Casablanca and still haven't seen it.
But my biggest shame has to be The Godfather movies (all of them... though I once randomly saw a small portion of part 2)

I blame the BSG.
Gone with the Wind
robUK. I have seen From Justin to Kelly and it's awesome (in that über bad movie way)
Dom... i'm almost jealous. you have so much awesomeness to discover.
brianmaru... my big ones are probably The Deer Hunter and The Godfather II.
In recent movies...Slumdog Millionaire
Others...The complete Star Wars series (seen bits), Fight Club, The Grapes of Wrath and Lord Of The Rings: All Of Them
whats more embarrassing...I'm a film student
the godfather i, ii, iii
casablanca
There needs to be some kind of support group for all of us who've never sat through a complete Star Wars or LOTR film. It's good to know I'm not alone.

Bicycle Thieves, The 400 Blows, and Breathless...and I own all three in their beautiful Criterion Collection packages. Hopefully one day soon I'll remove the discs.
Oh, and Christhian's comment almost made me pee a little.
Up until recently it was Rocky but then TCM got me caught up.
Now I'd have to say it's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly but only because I own the entire man with no name trilogy.
Gone with the Wind
Innocent Blood
West Side Story
"Tokyo Story... or ANY Ozu."

OMG Glenn, you haven't seen Sophie's Choice??? Wow. I know I'm in no position to talk, but... wow.
I have an extra DVD copy I could send you right now! I accidentally bought two from amazon! If only you didn't live 20,000 miles away...

Breathless
Seven Samurai
Bicycle Thieves
Sunset Blvd.
Yikes.
Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Godfather (come to think of it, a lot of great '70s movies).
I also haven't seen Schindler's List, and I am embarrassed at at my lack of embarrassment.
I was born 1994 and didn't start being interested in movie since some month ago, so i have almost not seen any of the classics from pre 70. Though i've seen Star Wars.
"The Godfather" films
:(
Schindler's List
Lee, 70s movies are the best so get on that. ;)
OKAY... so from the looks of the post here today I need to Netflix ASAP:
The Godfather
Shindler's List
Casablanca
Gone With the Wind
From Justin to Kelly
That's some crazy week of movies.
Schindler's List.
FINE!
Every time I go to rent a movie, it's Holocaust/anything else, hmmm.
