1. Trouble in Paradise 2. Hannah and Her Sisters 3. A Foreign Affair. Jean Arthur rocks my little world. Seeing her toss those chairs on her way over to John Lund kills me.
Hah, the answer to all three is ANY romantic comedy. Literally if a romantic comedy is on TV, I must watch it, even mediocre ones like Two Weeks Notice and bad ones like Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Hugh Grant is obviously gorgeous in both.
I've noticed I'll always watch Never Been Kissed also. And Clueless. Oh god and While You're Were Sleeping! I love romantic comedies.
1. Terms of Endearment - and i always come in just in time for debra winger's goodbye scene with her kids. i'm a fuckin mess every time. 2. The Pianist - when i'm really depressed i need something that makes my life seem not that bad. 3. Moonstruck, big time
1. Deja Vu. I've seen that movie an obscene amount of times. 2. Raise Your Voice always cheers me up. Hilary Duff singing that final number. *Tear* 3. Knotting Hill. It's one of the cutest romantic comedies ever.
# ...Thelma & Louise. Generally I start crying the moment it comes one. # ...Showgirls. Honest. # ...Sleepless in Seattle. I really do love that movie.
Nathaniel- I was thinking for all 3 yes but I can be specific : 1. My best friend's wedding, saw bits of it jst last weekend while surfing 2. Four Weddings or Devil weas prada 3. Brokeback, Now voyager or the way we were are my fave romantic movies
1. Mean Girls. I saw it in the cinema, my dvd copy is almost unplayable from overuse and still whenever I see it in the tv listings, I'll drop whatever I'm doing to slump in front of the set and speak the lines along with the characters. Also, Casablanca. I always begin by telling myself I'll only watch until Ingrid Bergman comes in, or just until the Marseilles, but nah - the whole thing sucks me in every time. And, um, Ms Congeniality.
2. I didn't even need to think about it, the answer is Hannah and her Sisters, easily. That film is my comfort blanket.
3. Moulin Rouge, I guess. Except I always turn the dvd off after the final song, so Satine lives forever! And also, Now, Voyager and The Awful Truth.
Ordinary People. Cancel all plans, there's not a scene I'm impervious to. Or Clueless. There's no explanation, but it has happened a lot, and I see I'm not alone.
Big Chill, or all six hours of Pride and Prejudice.
You've Got Mail. I only need the last 25 minutes. Or all six hours of Pride and Prejudice.
sphinx and GregWA I love the movie to suit all needs. hee
psf Nick and I have actually discussed this. The Bening has the best screen laugh in the business. It sounds so real. And it's contagious and ... how hard would it be to act laughing? So hard, I'd think
1. So many movies fit this bill, but I just touched on this phenomenon with regards to Poltergeist the other day.
2. Muriel's Wedding - I always forget all the sad parts of this movie beforehand (Her mother! Gah!) but I still leave it every time (and I've seen this movie dozens of times) with a huge smile. Goodbye, Porpoise Spit! Although Wonder Boys is a great, apt choice for me too.
3. Hitchcock's Notorious is the most romantic movie ever made, so that, although lately it's also been Punch-Drunk Love or Eternal Sunshine too.
1. The Devil Wears Prada ("yeah, I'm hearing this and what I want to hear is...this." LOVE Emily Blunt.) 2. Amelie 3. Carrie (Ok...this is stretching "romantic" a little bit, but that scene where Carrie and Tommy are dancing and the camera circles around them is the most romantic scene in the history of cinema for me.)
1. Selena - And it is ALWAYS on! Makes me laugh, cry and sing along. My friends all make fun of me because they know that if Selena is on, I have an uncontrollable desire to watch it. They don't even try to stop me anymore.
2. The Little Mermaid - Sick, sad, lonely, whatever, that movie is a fail-safe to lift my spirits.
3. Brokeback Mountain - Is there anything else to say that hasn't already been said? (especially by Nathaniel...)
1. Titanic(which is absorbing every time i see it, i don't care what anyone thinks. or Night of the Hunter( which is my all time favorite movie) 2. Night of the Hunter because a good villain always takes my mind off my problems.
1. Back to the Future - Because no matter how many times I've seen it, I have to make sure Marty gets back to 1985.
2. Working Girl - This movie has all the ingredients for a mood enhancing drug: a classic comeuppance, Carly Simon’s ballad, and Joan Cusack’s accent. (“It’s not even leatha!”)
3. Brief Encounter - Heartbreaking, but so beautiful. A treasure.
1. I usually hate not watching films from the very beginning, but if Down With Love is on I can't resist. Also Mary Poppins unless it's the Andrews-less section.
2. The Purple Rose of Cairo. (Ignoring that it has a sad ending...)
1. Jackie Brown or Dazed And Confused 2. Opposite of Sex - Christina Ricci makes me smile :) OR the "Once More With Feeling" episode of Buffy! 3. Some Like It Hot - it works, don't ask me why.
BeRightBack -- i remember Threesome and I've actually been curious to see it again. No one ever talks about it. I remember it being really wimpy scared of actually being a threesome movie though ;)
My answer all in one is "Good Will Hunting" because 1) it's ALWAYS on 2) I know the script by heart, which is surprisingly uplifting and 3) I'm not a particularly romantic person.
I think I can say Catch & Release for 1-3,though that doesn't reflect on it being a masterpiece of a film. It's just the most adorable movie, the girl is right the guy is right the friends are right the kid is right, the whole cast fits perfectly. I could probably add Pride & Prejudice (2005) and Jeux d'enfants(Love Me If You Dare) to no 3.

Four Weddings and a Funeral
1. Mortal Kombat--no lie, this movie has a curse-like stranglehold on my psyche.
2. Sideways--I know its a movie filled with bummed-out characters, but it always makes me smile.
3. The Apartment/Annie Hall--depends what kind of romance I'm in the mood for: the classic kind or the neurotic.
Hook, Pride and Prejudice, and Clueless

Mean Girls would work as well.
1. The 40 Year Old Virgin (or Being John Malcovich, love Catherine Keener)
2. Adam's Family Values
3. Closer (It's romantic I guess...)

2) Sideways or What about Bob
3) Brown Sugar
1. To Wong Foo... - I have no idea.
2. Beauty and the Beast
3. Beauty and the Beast
1 - The Parent Trap (60's version). Maurine O'Hara was just glorious in that.

Groundhog Day fits all three for me.
"While you were sleeping" is all I can think of right now.
1.American Beauty

The answer to all three: '60s Batman.
Oh, there's romance...
"...holy heartbreak, batman!'

1. Mean Girls. I saw it in the cinema, my dvd copy is almost unplayable from overuse and still whenever I see it in the tv listings, I'll drop whatever I'm doing to slump in front of the set and speak the lines along with the characters.
