With Spring You Get Blockbuster

I know that technically (er... emotionally?) the summer movie season began with X-Men Origins: Wolverine this past Friday but since I was out of town, it begins for me today. As you read this (I've timed it to publish) I am about halfway through Terminator Salvation.

Sam Worthington is already my favorite new movie star (projecting forward through Salvation, Last Night and Avatar. He's going supernova in '09). Sometimes hype sinks in and predetermines enthusiasms. You know how Hollywood do.

So yeah, I been spun. My head spins.

Which May movie are you most impatient for: Terminator Salvation, The Girlfriend Experience, Up, Easy Virtue, Star Trek ...other? And how do you fill your time whilst quivering with anticipation?

I'm afraid that if I go see “Terminator Salvation” it'll happen what has happened at Wolverine: I almost fall asleep and if it weren't for the big helicopter explosion at one point I probably would have.

I have seen “Easy Virtue” in London a while back and it’s a very funny film for those who like British humor. But I will go again to see it , just to support it.

What I am looking forward to see is “Star Trek”. I never watched the series on TV but I watched some of the “Next Generation” which I really enjoyed. I am desperate for some good sci-fi movies, but I mean really good, like the first “Star War”s or “Close Encounters of The Third Kind.

Obviously, whilst quivering with anticipation for all these great movies to come to a theatre near me, I am reading this blog.

I want to see Star Trek. I am a trekkie. Not hardcore, but I know a few things.

"Salvation"? I don't know I am hesitant about that movie. A "PG-13" Terminator? It better rock.

Star Trek. I've been desperate for a good spacefaring adventure.

i may be setting myself up for disappoinment, but i really am looking forward to the new Terminator film.

others i'm amped for are Up, The Girlfriend Experience, Rudo y Cursi, The Limits of Control, and Drag Me to Hell.

i've been trying to get excited about Star Trek for months now, and i just can't overcome my reservations - about the cast, the premise, and the writing/directing team. i'll see it (soon), and i'm really hoping for the best, but...

in the meantime, i'm following my fantasy baseball team and waiting for the mets to put together a nice winning streak. apologies for bringing sports into this. :)

"Star Trek". From way back.

Avatar will be monumental. I appreciate these summer blockbusters to keep me entertained while waiting for December 18th. But when Avatar hits the screens, we will all be watching in awe. Top movie of 2009, hands down.

So, Nate, how was the movie?

Despite never seeing a full episode of any of the series, I'm really looking forward to Star Trek and will be seeing it tomorrow at 7:15 pm. However, I'm probably looking forward to Terminator Salvation a little more. I'm also looking forward to Up as well.

As for Wolverine, it was entertaining in a disposable way. It's sad to say that considering that I loved the first two films but after X-Men: The Last Stand, that's the only way that you can look at the X-Men franchise now.

Oh yeah, I'll be seeing The girlfriend experience as well. I didn't love the trailer but the concept is interesting enough to get me into the theater.

I'm pretty pumped for Up. I'm ready for Pixar to top themselves yet again (and yes, I think it's possible).

In the meantime, I'm watching 26 movies in 26 days corresponding to each letter of the alphabet. Yeah, I'm that pathetic.

I'm really pumped to see both Star Trek AND Terminator Salvation. Looking forward to Sam Worthington now.

I'm interested in Star Trek, even though I'm not really a Star Trek fan. I'm just interested in seeing what Abrams can do with it.

And I think Up will be very good.

I'll be interested in getting your take on Salvation. I want to take my son to see it as well.

I want to see "Angels and Demons", purely to see Ewan McGregor in a cassock.

Star Trek too, for the sake of J.J.

I'm not really excited about any of the big movies, but 'The Brothers Bloom' does come out this month, and I am looking forward to it.

Oh the listed titles I'm most excited for Terminator 4. Sam Worthington is worth is hype, I just hope he delivers.

Easy Virtue is passable entertainment for what it is, but it's no Gosford Park.

The Limits of Control, all the way. But then, I am a dirty little whore for Jarmusch.

As for all the bigger films, I don't really know. I just can't whip myself into anything remotely like enthusiasm, especially since Wolverine was almost exactly as pleasantly mediocre as I expected.

(Second The Brothers Bloom, though I'm still not certain how limited its limited release is going to be.)
Star Trek looks like nothing but big explosions by a TV director with way too much money, and if the PG-13 weren't enough to make me doubt Terminator Salvation, McG certainly would be. I think I'm marginally more excited by the first one, if only because I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Trekkie.

I just can't help myself but look at all of those trailers, and wonder how I'm supposed to stay awake for any of it. Man, how much longer till Public Enemies?

Of course, there's always Up, but getting excited for the new Pixar film is a completely different thing than being excited for a summer film.

T.S. got my vote. I hated the last one and i hope the will bring some respect back to the Terminator movies.
