Truly, Madly, Depply

Johnny Depp turns 46 today. We've loved him since April of 1990 when that first single teardrop fell in glorious closeup in Cry-Baby. Twenty years of richly deserved movie stardom followed.

Blessed are the richly cheekboned, for theirs is the Kingdom of Hollywood
*
Up next for Johnny: John Dillinger in Public Enemies (another Oscar run?), Paul Kemp in The Rum Diary (Vanity Fair shoot) and The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. After that only Johnny knows... numerous movie possibilities (about 14 of them) are vying for time on his calendar.

No love for his belly-bearing half-shirt in Nightmare on Elm Street?

I don't know about you all, but I started loving Johnny in 1987 when 21 JUMPSTREET hit the air. I think that's when the Johnny craze truly began.

Though we did love him in NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, even though we didn't know who he was.

Chris i speak the truth in the post. I was not a devotee until Cry-Baby. I didn't like 21 Jump Street... though it sure was fun to see that Josh Brolin episode last year.

Nice shout-out. "Cry-Baby" was a major eye-opener; was my favourite musical when I was six! (thank goodness for John Waters' PG phase) I used to play-act as Allison and do the song&dances ALL THE TIME. (I was kind of a flamboyant child) Johnny Depp was easily my first favourite actor. My trinity of his performances would be Ichabod Crane, Edward Scissorhands and Jack Sparrow.

Johnny is nice and all, but isn't this supposed to be Meryl Streep month?

You have a very pure and cinematic heart.

Heavens, he really is like Benjamin Button. He looks younger with each year. I've loved him since Edward Scissorhands so even if Public Enemies is awful, I'll still love him.

I chose to celebrate Johnny's birthday by writing him an open letter.
