Tricking a friend into watching Martyrs.
It's like The Ring.
I have to make someone else watch it so I won't go insane.

Waiting for The Hurt Locker...unfortunately, it's won't be at a theater near me until next week. I suppose this wasn't a very exciting comment. Maybe I'll finally see Drag Me to Hell? Or watch Autumn Sonata, which I've had from netflix for a month?

Fabrizzio. i still haven't watched Drag me to Hell either.

weirdly i have no holiday plans so i'm either gonna leave town or just sit in movie theaters and get caught up

Basically it will be a stay at home movie weekend when I'm not going out to party. So far this week I've seen The Day The Earth Stood Still (original), Wendy & Lucy, Notorious, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rear Window, The Women (original), Carmen Jones

Getting ready to watch The Seven Year Itch and Flight of the Red Balloon. Hope I see To Catch a Thief and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington this weekend.

I think maybe I should've seen these movies before I graduated...

To hell with "Public Enemies."
I'm in Atlanta, where "Moon" is finally opening! I'm so excited. To Atlanta really isn't a big city. To steal a phrase, we've got about one movie theater, and they JUST got "Runaway Bride."

Drew, I was gonna go to that (I assume you're in Melbourne) but decided I really couldn't be bothered. Now if Rowan Woods made another movie as good as The Boys (David Wenham, Toni Collette) then I'd be there.

Watching some old movies on the weekend as I get rid of the last remnants of swine flu from my system.

I have Blair Witch Project, The Cooler, and Half Nelson on the docket. I would be watching Z as well, except the damn DVD I got from the library has no English subtitles. Words cannot describe the letdown due to that discovery.

Our neighborhood's electricity went out for the afternoon so we went to the movies just to get out of the heat. Saw "Public Enemies" which ironically as part of the film, had a movie theater advertising it was air-conditioned. A solid "B" but gangster movies are not my thing. There's very few I will watch again...only "Goodfellas" and "Billy Bathgate" that I can think of offhand. Bale bored me to tears. Depp was good but I've never been a fan. And shocked to see David Wenham in there for all of what seemed like 5 seconds. I wanted more David Wenham.

And I have to say the trailers beforehand....awful. This crazy Bruce Willis sci-fi movie is coming out where everyone has a robotic twin or something...called "Surrogates". OMG it looked awful!

We would have gone to see "Whatever Works" but couldn't bear the thought of taking public transport on a holiday weekend to the ONE theater showing it. So we drove to the burbs.

Shakespeare In Love (for the umpteenth time), 8 1/2, and Wall Street.

"Away We Go" and "Whatever Works" just opened in one of the local theatres so I'm going to try make both of them. I know "Whatever Works" has been getting divided reviews but I can't resist Patricia Clarkson and Evan Rachel Wood.

I'm in New Zealand and 'Up' doesn't open till September. Can someone please shoot me?

Andrew David said...

Glenn Dunks, yeah the one in Melbourne... I haven't actually seen The Boys, but I think overall I preferred Winged Creatures to Little Fish. But I find there to be a vagueness about both those films that turns me off Woods.

Now, I really want to see Last Ride. Where do these Australian cinematographers come from? The clips from Last Ride that I've seen, not to mention the whole of Samson & Delilah, would have to rank as some of the most stunning visuals I've ever seen on film.

Public Enemies last night, might catch up on some classics this weekend, remember how gangster flicks should be done.

Am going to try for "Coco avant Channel" this weekend if I can find someone else who feels like an evening with AC and nice company... that or I might rent both Hellboy movies (which I have yet to see) and just stay at home with a nice Rioja and a plate of cheese...

I'm going to see Desplechin's A Christmas Tale tomorrow, in spite of the flu pandemic going around here, we're in winter! The flu is at its peak and everything is starting to close, if I don't go now, I'll have to watch it on dvd 5 months from now.

Glenn said...

Drew, Last Ride is NOT worth it. It's more wallowing in lower class bogan miserabalism without any of the poignancy of Samson and Delilah and without the vital ferocity of The Boys. Rent the latter film instead. It's one of the best films Australia has ever produced.

Seeing Balibo tomorrow (sunday). I forgot all about that screening. It's apparently fantastic so I can't wait.

nono your dvd player is on fire!

the know nothing maybe now that Moon is opening people will actually watch that vodcast Katey and I did.

countrycat i always want more David Wenham as well. The movies are always teasing and never quite delivering when it comes to him.

sphinx don't get shot. then you won't ever get to see UP.

i'm still so confused that release patterns withhold even the blockbusters for months on end for some countries. No wonder piracy is rampant everywhere.

i watched public enemies last night, and i have from here to eternity, and punch-drunk love planned for today.

did anybody else have a problem with the cinematography of public enemies. couldn't have been a little more epic? A 30s gangster movie and the indie look together couldn't do it for me. i'm surprised spinotti did this. i was so disappointed.
disappointed with the movie in genereal too.

Just finished "Away We Go" - top five so far, maybe for the year. Really good stuff...needed that to wash away the last of the "Star Trek" aftertaste.

Saw "Moon" earlier in the week. Didn't want the vodcast to provide spoilage...will go over and catch it now.

I went to see The Beaches of Agnes this weekend because my Twelfth Night in The Park plans went awry. I also learned this weekend that it is highly enjoyable to see Agnes Varda dressed as a potato.

Nathaniel, any thoughts on The Hurt Locker? I've been reading some stellar reviews and it looks intense, from the trailers.
