Rumor Alert!Or, rather, 'Possiblity Alert'! And one you haven't heard yet. The other evening at a dinner party, I chatted briefly with writer/director Amy Heckerling (of Clueless fame). Since her very last feature I Could Never Be Your Woman starred Michelle Pfeiffer, you know I couldn't resist gushing about my favorite actress. The conversation quickly drifted to Saoirse Ronan, who played Pfeiffer's daughter in that film. Heckerling was very proud to have discovered her (...Woman preceeding Atonement, production-wise) and wouldn't you be?
Leaving the party later, I wished Heckerling well on her new comedy Vamps which should go before cameras in the spring. Remembering me as that weirdly obsessed pfan-guy, Heckerling clasped her hands together in supplication and said 'I hope I get Pfeiffer for it.'

Has an offer gone out? Could Pfeiffer finally have a vampiric role? The movie is still in preproduction with only Kristen Ritter signed. IMDB describes the comedy like so...
Two female vampires in modern-day New York City are faced with daunting romantic possibilitiesOne assumes with Ritter in the lead that the two vamps are young women... but perhaps Pfeiffer could be a ruling bloodsucker? A vampire queen? Pfeiffer has been leaning towards the wicked and showy supporting bits since her comeback (Hairspray, Stardust) and I know one or one-hundred pfans* who have long fantasized about Michelle sinking her teeth into that sort of role. There's just something about her ferocity. The closest we ever got was her lupine beauty in Wolf.

Pfeiffer could still play way younger than she actually is looks-wise. Hopefully she'll get some villanious role though :). I'll forever stick by The Legend of Miss Baltimore Crabs as Hairspray's second best (I do love "You Can't Stop the Beat" the most.)

Sounds like it'd be pretty awesome.
Granted I disliked I Could Never Be Your Woman intensely, but I'm willing to forgive all at the thought of Michelle FINALLY playing a vampire. Best of all would be if she played a vampire similar to Catherine Deneuve's Miriam in the Hunger - ice cold elegance with hefty amounts of manipulation and betrayal.
Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't sound well?
I am as Pfeiffer fan as anyone else around here, but this seriously? Something like a teen vampire rom-com (from that succint plot summary) that sounds as trying to get some heat out of the teen vampire Twilight movies? If her name is to be there to be just a supporting, pedigree name to give the movie a patina of respectfulness, I say no. Don't throw Pfeiffer's name into the mud.
(Disclaimer: I might have misinterpreted something. I always feel this way when my opinion is contrary to everyone else's. My excuse, the flu.)
Pfeiffer should save her vamping for something like True Blood. Teen nonsense less her thing even if she never does TV either.
That should be "respectability" not "respectfulness".

@Iggy -- i hear what you're saying and there is that danger but I guess I always hope that Heckerling has another "Clueless" in her, y'know?
i actually don't think there's that much danger of it happening though given that Pfeiffer only very rarely works with a director twice (there's just two of them: Stephen Frears and Michael Hoffman)
I'd reckon she's the prettiest leading lady in American film of the last 20 years.

i really didn't like it at all the first round, but the second viewing was great
the script was definitely weak in some spots, but overall a job well done by everyone involved
