Working from a couple of great films lists. Just under 80 left on the Empire 500 list. Just under 700 on a list of 1001. Going to polish off The Magnificent Ambersons and maybe Ikiru.
I'll probably go see How to Train Your Dragon and watch the first disc of Mad Men Season 2 if Netflix sends it quickly enough.
Then again, I may stay in and watch whichever of the AFI Top 100 is on Netflix Instant Watch. It is, after all, my last weekend of vacation before I go back to classes!
I have to write a movie rewiew for my history & hollywood class before the school year is over. I would normally love this assignment if it weren't given to us in the months when almost nothing good comes out. teacher should know this. lesson plan fail.
I'm planning out weekend vacation trips for this summer and am looking at the Bard Summer Scape film series. (I swear that I don't work for them). If you could only go for a few days and had to choose one pair of films to go to, what would you pick?

Christine - Geeze, that sure is a lot of Pabst. I'd say Diary of a Lost Girl and Pandora's Box, but then again I have an unhealthy thing for Louise Brooks.
If you don't want to do that much Pabst, perhaps Threepenny Opera and Merry Widow (although I've not seen The Merry Widow, I can't imagine anything less than fantastic coming from Lubitsch)
Christine -- DEFINITELY the Louise Brooks double feature. Both movies are fantastic (let alone Louise being magnificent in them)

PPO-10 -- obey the universe. the universe doesn't often send out signals that are that rewarding.
Yeah, it's apparently Pabst-a-thon at Bard. My dilemma is that I've seen--on the small screen, or by rental only--Diary of a Lost Girl, Pandora's Box, The Merry Widow, and They Live By Night So, do I spend my wide-screen movie time seeing films I've never watched or watch films I've seen before without the glory of the big screen?
My obsession with Greta Gerwig has reached a fever pitch. She's SO good in Greenberg.
i need some cheese in my life since i'm off dairy for allergy seasons. up this weekend are sparkle & grease 2. if i'm in the mood, i might take in chloe.
Rodrigo Garcia is coming to my school to talk about "Mother and Child" and do a screening. I'm about to pass out.

Comedy weekend for me. Will be seeing Men Who Stare At Goats, The Hangover, and The Informant!. Plus I may check out a few of my Watch Instantly films on Netflix as soon as I get that Wii/Netflix CD in the mail.
I have some great new DVDs. I think I'll stay home and watch some.

I just finised watching Adventureland. Love that movie
What's on my mind, cinematically speaking, is that new blog header picture you've made wherein Zac Efron and Catherine Zeta Jones appear to be winking at eachother. So I've started to think about some sort of cougar-themed musical.
And it's totally the Best Picture of the year.

I just discovered Wong Kar-Wai. In the Mood For Love, and all his other movies are in my Netflix queue.
Even just as good (or even better), I rediscovered Tony Leung. I've only seen him in Hero, which he was solid in, but he was just SO. wonderful and heartbreaking in ITMFL. I watched Lust, Caution quickly afterwards, and he has already become a favorite actor of mine (Nathaniel - I just searched his name on your blog because I recalled your fondness for him. And your dozen-so posts on him were just pure candy to me. Thankkkkk you!)
I went to the Ziegfeld on Tuesday night for the TCM Classic Film Festival presentation of All About Eve. It was hosted by TCM's Robert Osborne with a guest appearance by Elaine Stritch. I'd seen the movie before, but not on a big screen. SO good. It was a thrill to see Osborne and Stritch who are each as spry as ever.
I am about to watch Metropolis for the first time.
Yes! I will watch "The Book of Eli" and "É Proibido Fumar", a brazilian movie.
I have The Reader (which everytime I say it or think about it the hugh jackman song instantly appears, i haven't seen the reader!), Funny People and Interview with the Vampire all awaiting on my dvd
I'm not a big fan of the vampires but your mentioning of the movie at least every couple of months got me intrigued.
With the 3D tickets now $20 in NYC, I don't think I'll be training any dragons this weekend. Going to MoMa's New Directors/New Film festival instead.

I'm watching Remember Me this afternoon. I'm curious...
I saw How To Train Your Dragon in 3D and it was wonderful....the animators did such an amazing job on the main dragon, I won't spoil anything though for those who are reading. 3D worked also very nicely, I haven't seen many in 3D but this one was good and I never got a headache. I think it was just as good or better than Kung Fu Panda and that's saying a lot! Very wonderful!
I love The Thin Red Line, but sometimes, it can be a difficult film to slog through.

saw Still Walking and A Single Man at the World Cinema Showcase in Auckland. It was quite a jarring experience viewing these two flicks back-to-back. In the end, Koreeda's poignant and beautifully philosophical movie about life and family overshadowed Ford's fetishized suicide. I appreciate aesthetically pleasant things and all, but A Single Man was SO style over substance that Ford might as well have included price tags, swatches, and size charts right next to the beautiful couches, lamps, and suits.
I'm about to watch fish tank in a few seconds. :). Plus I gave the time traveler's wife a second chance and apprecaied it more.. Rachel McAdams is so beautiful! And I might write a paper on either American history x or traffic. I've never seen traffic and i love American history x.
I plan to watch Greenburg at the theatre.
And finish watching Brothers on dvd.
